OUR NEW NEIGHBOURS!!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Twinkie1 · 01/05/2006 19:14

Not sure if there is anything I can do about it but I have new neighbours who are slowly turning into neighbours from hell!!!

Night after they moved in had to listen to f'ing infernal RAGGA Music till 3 in the morning which was bad enoughbefore I realised they had a dog and I HATE dogs!!

And today after me slaving away in the garden all weekend they have started chucking bulbs over our fence!!!

Thing at the moment though that is really troubling me is the man of the house (and what a specimen he is!!!) parks his big white van in between his house and ours on the road so other than being all I can see out of my window (it was quite a nice view before it is completely blocking my view of the road when I have to reverse off of the drive - we live on a slight bend and it was bad enough before but now it is really dangerous as cars come round the bend at quite a speed and I have no way of seeing them until I am right out in the road and just have to pray they see me - worse thing is I reverse off as I have said and so if we were to be hit it would be the kids who would bear the full front of anything.

I have mentioned it to his wife that it is not only dangerous but means the buses that go past our house have stop outside and then pull out - making it f'ing noisy - and then pulling away again - this also disturbed DS's sleep as his room is at the front of the house - she said that she understood as she had said to him it blocks her view too and is dangerous and he said to her that he would park down one of the side roads - but so far he hasn't at all his infernal white van is there every night and I dread having to take DD to school and put our lives at the mercy of the traffic - it can now take about 10 minutes to even get off my drive as I just can't see anything!!

I know I sound over dramatic but I have nightmares about crashing anyway as my mother was killed in a car accident and my sister badly hurt!!!

Is there any thing I can do if they insist on parking there - do you think the council would do anything or do I have to resort to parking my car there and risking coming out each morning to find it wing mirrorless (which is better than running the risk of having an accident but would really piss them off!!!!)

Yours at my wits end TWINKIE!!!!

take them round a cake .. or a welcome to the neighbourhood pressie .. or invite them round for a coffee / drink ... people tend to bend over backwards for people they know .. and if you're not the faceless neighbours they'll think twice .. hopefully

.. I know far easier said than done .. but really if you react badly or get shirty they'll have absolutely no incentive to be more sensitive to your needs

.. if nothing changes .. nick some police cones and stick them outside your house

Try knocking his door every morning and asking him to wave you out of the drive.GrinShould be annoying enough to make him move.
Have they not got a drive then????

Twinkie1 · 01/05/2006 19:51

I have been really nice to them actually - I left wine and a card in their porch the day they moved in and not a word of thanks for it!!!

Have let her in to use the phone when she was locked out and let her look around my house and have walked to school with her one day as her daughter goes to my daughters school so I'm not faceless at all.

I know it seems silly but this is really getting me down - yu live somewhere and really like it and then all it takes is one family who doesn't give two shits about the people that live around them and your whole home becomes somewhere completely different to what it has been!!

Oh yes they have a drive with enough space for 2 cars on it or her car and his van but for some reason he won;t park their - would rather share the side of the van with us!!!

oh, poor you, Twinkie. so horrible when neighbours make your life difficult. totally understand where you are coming from as we have to reverse out onto a fast road...must be horrendous for you with having lost your dm in a car crash Sad

are they legally parked? if so, maybe call the council and ask their advice. or, can you park somewhere else (not ideal, I know, but better than putting your children at risk?)

Dottydot · 01/05/2006 21:28

It might be worth phoning your local police station - we've got some really friendly community officer-type people who regularly walk around here - I don't think they're official police officers but it might be if you've got any where you live they could do a foot patrol on your road and advise your neighbours to park the van elsewhere - that way it wouldn't look like you'd made a complaint? If you explained the situation to the police station they would hopefully be discreet/tactful - or am I hoping for too much?!

Skribble · 01/05/2006 22:19

I would definatly get her out every morning to see you out of the drive. She will soon get fed up.

milward · 01/05/2006 22:21

Ask them to move their van every morning - don't risk an accident - if no joy get your local police involved.

milward · 01/05/2006 22:22

Isn't there something in the highway code about parking distance from a bend in the road?

cece · 01/05/2006 22:28

Are they tenants - if so you could compalin to their landlord/letting agent.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this - we had to move in the end due to our horrible neighbours so know exactly where you are coming from.

SparklyGothKat · 01/05/2006 22:43

I would reverse onto the drive, have to do it myself, as the parking here is terrible and people park wherever.
Sorry to hear that this is happening to you, I am moving soon because of nasty neighbours and I have a huge drive on my new house and noone is allowed to park on the roads (rules of the estate) so I can't wait.

stapo1 · 01/05/2006 22:43

Just a few ideas..

Throw the bulbs back laced with something nasty but not terminal for the dog to chew on..
Keep putting sharp objects were the van should be parked, no one can afford too many puntures...
Play country & western until 4 in the morning

They will either become the quietest neighbours ever or they'll move because they think your mad!

Tortington · 01/05/2006 23:41

re: the music - you can call environmental health - if you ring them they should have an out of hours number. tenant or no tenant you should take this route.

if a tenant complaint to the landlord in writing.

re the van - dont know tbh. if its legally parked - its legally parked. if not then you should contact the police.

Installing a convex mirror at the other side of the street?

Though... i would be tempted to paint a yellow double line while he is at work Wink

Esmummy · 02/05/2006 14:29

God they sound awful Twinkie but in a more frustrating way than anything else. Could get angry and stroppy if they were rude etc but it seems they are just careless. Although throwing stuff over my fence would severely piss me off, i would start up so they could see me and throw it back whilst shouting "I THINK THIS BELONGS TO YOU".

oliveoil · 02/05/2006 14:33

I would knock on EVERY morning and get them to move it.

THEN put your children in the car so they have to wait around whilst you faff about. I find it can take, ooooooh 10 mins to get children in car seats.

Then smile winningly, wave and drive off.

He will then go in the house muttering and moaning but you have been so NICE that he will think you are a dumb housewife and not a scheming so and so and then decide to park elsewhere.

eefs · 02/05/2006 14:39

mirror on the other side of the stree is a good idea.

Blu · 02/05/2006 14:50

Contact your local Councillor and Head of Traffic about the obstruction of view, and see if they will agree to a double yellow line there.

meanwhile, reverse in so that you can come out forwards?
