Bogwoppit · 18/01/2004 20:24

not sure if this is the right place but oh well!

Dh is doing the London marathon in April & we need somewhere to stay.

not having any clues about London! can anyone suggest where is best to stay for a couple of days.

Not too noisy, nr start/finish/ withing easy tube access of both. for me, dh & ds (2yrs)not too expensive!

Travel inn/lodge would be fine.

if anyone has any suggestions at all please can you let me know. we need to get something booked ASAP!

People on here have recommended the Travelodge at the old GLC building, though I think it gets booked up fast. I'll try and find a link.....

tamum · 18/01/2004 20:37

Sorry, Travel Inn. The previous thread on it is here

tamum · 18/01/2004 20:39

There's an Ibis in Greenwich, near to the start. I would offer you my floor as I live just below Greenwich park, but I already have two lunatics staying that night.

wilbur · 19/01/2004 10:36

If the finish is in Battersea, there's a Travelodge on York Way in Battersea. My in-laws stayed there one Xmas and said it was fine. Try here and type Battersea into the search engine. Brilliant of your dh to be running - has he done one before?

wilbur · 19/01/2004 10:37

Why do my links never work? Grrr. Try www.travelodge.co.uk.

CountessDracula · 19/01/2004 11:18

Bogwoppit why not stay in a B&B, so much nicer than a travelodge?

Try www.londonbb.com/

Or do a google, there are loads of agencies. This one starts from £22 per person per night.

Bogwoppit · 19/01/2004 13:23

thanks everyone - sent dh to work with a load of phone numbers! hopefully he will have come up with somthing.

It will be his 1st marathon - though he has doe the great north run a few times.

Think he is going to be sponsored to raise money for our local Guide county - who are trying to raise money to build a new outdoor building at the county camp site.

I think he is nuts, but it is something he has always wanted to do!

will keep you all posted!

Hey, it just occured to me, I'll be there at the start, waving off my lunatic friends. Want to have an impromptu mumsnet meetup?

Luckymum · 19/01/2004 14:15

Bogwoppit - good luck to dh . We went a few years ago when dh ran. The finish is in St James' Park I think. A word of warning..it was absolute chaos at the end and really diificult to spot dh after he'd finished (they all look the same wrapped in those tin foil thingys) make sure you arrange a meeting spot and take your mobile with you.

Bogwoppit · 19/01/2004 17:25

sounds good slug. you name a place to meet up & I'll try & find you!!!

good idea about the end luckymum!

if you're still looking for accommodation my children's school in Blackheath organises B&B in family houses near the Marathon start. It costs £35 per person for b&b and, if necessary, transport to the start (a lot of houses are in walking distance). All the money goes to the PTA funds so is used for trips, football clubs, music teaching etc for the children. If you are interested let me know and I can give you the organiser's details. We've had runners and supporters stay with us for the last three years and it's always worked well.

I thought the finish was always down The Mall? The B&B in Blackheath sounds good, especially as it will be with other people involved in The Marathon. THere is a new Travel Lodge in the Grays Inn Road which, believe it or not, looks v. nice....
