Please can you all help me. Im up at an unearthly hour worrying about what I need to take on holiday to Gran Canaria in 3 weeks time.

I have a dd who is 1 year old, and I have no idea what I need to be taking away. Please list the things you think so I can make a note. Many thanks.

Hi we're going to Gran Canaria in about three weeks too!
Our dd will be 3 so a bit different, but the last time we went abroad she was 9mths old.

We bought a few new toys for dd (small dinky things like miniature story books and mini wind up radio etc) i kept them hidden so that they were a novelty on the plane, bring one out each hour - mind you its only short to Gran Canaria isn't it so all will be fine!

I carried a bowl and spoon for dd to use in restaurants, to save risking breaking china and glass! And i just put small bits of our dinners (or most nights it was buffet) into her bowl for her.

OK what you need
Suntan lotion
Sunhat
Swimming costume
Towel? - or do the hotel provide them round the pool.
Few pairs of shorts and t-shirts, few sun dresses for the evenings.

Buggy.

What transport will you use? If taxis or hire car, you can request a car seat for your dd

must go now cos dd is causing havoc, but will think up more later!

The thing I wish I had taken when we took DS to Lanzarote at 9 months was an inflatable child seat (think Early Years Make them). He got really annoyed being stuck in his buggy when we went out to eat.

Armbands or some kind of swim aid? Dd quite enjoyed those blow up rings with a seat.

I know i said small toys earlier, but you really don't need to over do it. DD only really played with toys when we'd go back to our room to get ready for the evening. The rest of the day we were out and about and she was entertained or playing in the sand.

nappies!

i can't think of much else! Don't think insect repellent will be necessary out there yet.

TTTT we're off to Malta next week and dd is 11mths, we're taking ;

3 swimsuits (so you can dry one off when you take her out of pool and put her into another for next marathon session in pool) >,
2 hats,
few shorties and t-shirt sets for daytime,
couple of light weight trousers/long sleeve T's for cooler evenings,
vests for sleeping in,
couple of dresses incase I feel like dressing her up Smile
nappies (abroad we've found they're either expensive for pampers or they have crap 1980's style inflexible bricks Wink)
swim nappies,
a couple of small new (to her) toys (like Hattie says to keep peak interest!),
sandles and swim jelly shoes,
inflateable swim seat for when my arms get tired,
poncho towel to wrap her in and quickly discard wet swim suit when we can prise her out of the water!,
baby sun cream and after sun
milk powder,
sun shade for buggy - forgot one year for ds and couldn't buy one = very miserable little boy and bored parents who couldn't go for nice daytime walks!

After that anything else we need we'll buy there. Don't bother with too many toys, you can buy a bucket/spade set very cheaply for daytime use when you get there, and we found that as we were out most evenings (when we've gone before with ds - almost 4) they'll either sleep in the buggy or be entertained at the restaurant buy very child friendly europeans Wink

Have a great holiday Smile

The early years inflatable seats are fantastic, Spain is child friendly but not high chair friendly generally.

Talc is great for getting sand off.
