Yes, and yes it is!!

Pinotmum · 28/04/2006 16:46

Yes, I'm pretty annoyed about it really. That means they will have had 2 x 3 day weeks since returning from Easter Hols.

TwoToTango · 28/04/2006 17:18

Yes - they've only gone back this week after Easter and next week they will only be at school for 3 days - don't know why they can't use libraries or somewhere else for voting.

Pixiefish · 28/04/2006 17:19

my old primary always used to close for elections.

nutcracker · 28/04/2006 17:19

Yep mine too. They have got so many days off coming up it's ridiculous.

serenity · 28/04/2006 17:29

No, mine are in school. However I'm having to be off work as DH works as a Poll Clerk during elections, so I've got no one to have them in the evening (shame Wink) We're going to go out for dinner as a treat instead.

pebblemum · 28/04/2006 17:29

My ds1's school is closed too.
How can they kick up such a fuss about parents taking kids out of school for a few days to go on holiday when they are forever closing the schools for pathetic rasons such as this. There are plenty of scout halls and community centres around, why cant they use them?

My friend has two daughters that go to the same school but the younger one has the day off but the older one still has to go (she's in the juniors), imagine the fuss she has had to put up with since her dd1 found out.

dinosaure · 28/04/2006 17:29

God, I haven't even thought about it. Absolutely no idea.

Blu · 28/04/2006 17:32

Yes, and I'm pretty annoyed about it. 'Child off school for elections' isn't usually a recognised reason for a day off on full pay, is it? grrrrrr.

Blandmum · 28/04/2006 17:32

pepplemum, if yuo ask , you may well find out that the school doesn't have a choice.

Plus there is a vast difference from a whole school day closure (where no child is left out of learning), and your child missing out on 2 weeks work, which the rest of the children have done.

The staff will have planned for the closure, it is unreasonable of people to expect them to plan for a child's holiday.

pebblemum · 28/04/2006 17:44

I guess you have a point but why is it alright for the government to say it is ok for the schools to close when it suits them, it is still our kids who miss out There are plenty of other buildings they could use that wouldnt cause as much disruption. I dont work so luckily i dont have to worry about finding childcare for my children but i know many mums who do. Why should they have to fork out extra money just so the government can use their childrens schools as polling booths.

Twiglett · 28/04/2006 17:48

yes .. and it isn't because I'm in the enviable position of being a SAHM .. i feel so sorry for people who work .. it must be so f'ing frustrating with all the weird days .. I don't know how you cope

well I do actually .. you ask people like me if they'll have your child Grin
