What to do with outgrown baby clothes

Does anyone know of a charity / orphanage who need baby clothes, mainly vests and babygrows, sizes from newborn to 12 months?

Anyone also know of who might need my stage 1 car seat, I'm finding it difficult to give away and don't really want to skip it.

Thanks

I've tried and tried to find a charitable cause for my maternity and baby things. Couldn't find one. But, then a few friends went and got knocked up, so I've split it between them. Wonder if there might be some single mums-to-be on here who could use the stuff?

If nothing else, I'm bumping this for you.

Why don't you just drop them off at a charity shop?
Also there are recycling bins in most Supermarkets for clothes.

(Or were you looking for something more specific?)

Your local Womens Refuge?

I took all my stuff to the Children's hospital because they never had enough baby clothes when my dd2 was in (she had meningitis, but that is another story). She was often in babygros so small that she couldn't straighten her legs. I took a huge sackful and they were very grateful - said lots would get pinched, but if people are that desperate . . .

I also took baby toys and things like that - they were all gratefully received.

Have you thought about giving them to sally army or sure start who could distribute them to the needy.

Tommy · 27/04/2006 17:10

I gave away a lot of stuff to my midwife who worked at the SureStart centre

Second Women's Aid.
Took a whole load around the other day and they were very grateful and said that thier centres everywhere are in need of stuff for mothers, babies and children.

Have you heard of Freecycle? It's a Yahoo group that is operating in lots of areas now. People advertise the things they no longer want and people come and collect! I managed to get some brilliant baby stuff from other parents, whilst giving the stuff I no longer need away! It ensures things go to people who will use them.. it isn't exactly a charity but I think it's worth having a look!

I intend to have another baby. Have so many clothes it would be un-economical to do otherwise.

threebob · 29/04/2006 01:39

Ask HV?

Donate to hospital

Put in one of those recycling clothes banks

Oxfam shop (do they still exist)

Ring your council and ask

Sell the whole lot on Ebay and give money to charity.

Put car seat on Ebay or ask local maternity hospital.

I always give stuff to the Salvation Army. They will ALWAYS find a good use for anything ...
Definitely my charity of choice.

car25 · 29/04/2006 10:51

Thanks for all your replies, I'll try women's refuge and local children's hospital first.

I am wary of putting it on freecycle as I'd like to give it to someone who really needs it, not someone who surfs freecycle to get stuff to sell on.

I have either sold my old baby bits or given them away to friends who have had babies after me.
I have sold lots on ebay & NCT type sales.
Womens refuge sounds like a good idea. I am sure they will be very grateful of your bits.
