Counselling? For killing a snail?

Barking.

Seriously.

I used to be very "thou shalt not kill" about everything but mosquitoes, but since I started growing vegetables, snails are the work of the devil. As are slugs.

Joke - what did the slug say to the snail?

Big Issue?

(Sorry - should've had a "bad taste joke" warning, prob).

I'd tell Dd not too and that it is cruel, etc.

I hate spiders, terrified of them - I Dyson them if they are in my house and Dh isn't around to get rid of them in a more humane manner.

PILs tell DD to stamp on any ants she sees at their house. their home is infested with them yearly and it is a major battle for them. They do have the house treated regularly by some company, but in their place - house and garden ants are stamped on smartish. I discourage DD from doing this when with us though.

Gingerbear - the boys are my school did that with the dragon fly/daddy long leg things too. Their idea was to pull the legs off them, or to grab hold of them and chase the girls with them. Still makes me shudder.

Snails, worms, etc. I wouldn't be best pleased. I'd make sure DD knew I wasn't and why. But no, I wouldn't be horrified.

As for the therapy/counselling type comments - I was assuming you were joking??? I can't imagine many professionals would take it seriously would they? maybe the ones where you are paying for their services might? Or if the child was displaying other related violence and aggression tendancies?

Yes, many murders probably do kill the odd insect in childhood. They probably watched TV, played pretend fighting games, played cowboys or pirates, watched "violent" cartoons, ....lots of other stuff. Shall we ban them all just in case that was the trigger? B

elieve me, of the murderers and violent prisioners I have dealt with, including the two I saw today, killing the odd insect in childhood did NOT figure highly in my mind as the probably cause of their aggression and violent nature!

babyonboard · 26/04/2006 17:09

hunker..sorry cannot figure out your joke at all..lol

edam..so does your dh freely kill spiders, but when your ds is around takes care to take them into the garden!? thats real hypocrisy.

What shall I do about the ants in our kitchen FioFio? Wink

hulababy · 26/04/2006 17:21

It shouldn't come in my house them! No seriously, not nice I know. But I am so horribly terrified of them there is no way I could stay in the house knowing it was there, and couldn't go out as when I came back I wouldn't know where it was. I lived in a 5th floor apartment so I was safe from them! I have considered trying hypnotherapy or something for it, but the thought of what I would have to go through is enough to make me feel sick.

Shocked at some messages here... even when I'm an animal lover... I always thought the way of pigeons to earn their daily fare was to allow a bit of chasing in order to get some bread crumbs! IMO far easier than finding food themselves and also keeps them fit!

Now, about counselling for a kid who killed an insect??? the ones needing counseling are the parents of that child!

Off to eat a chicken that somebody "murdered" for me.

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2006 17:24

We don't eat meat but ds said today he wanted to eat some ants (???).

Me: (in mock horror) You can't eat ants!

Ds: Oh alright then can we get some vegetarian ants please?

hulababy · 26/04/2006 17:24

Some of the comments on here ahve to be wind ups surely?!!!

Chandra · 26/04/2006 17:25

There are no vegetarian ants, all of them eat meat! Wink

Seriously though Fio, I don't think anyone here is saying it's fine for kids to stamp on any living thing just for fun, or that it should be encouraged.
It's just if you also eat meat, kill slugs etc (as many of us do), how shocked can you really be if a child who doesn't know any better kills a spider?

Kathy1972 · 26/04/2006 17:30

Will try the empty kitchen roll tube Grin. What should I say?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 26/04/2006 17:30

Fio are you another one of these lentil weaversWink

Kathy1972 · 26/04/2006 17:31

Maybe I should weave a lovely new house from lentils and the ants will go off and live in that Grin

babyonboard · 26/04/2006 17:36

lol..and i had a god word to those damn fruit flies that crept into my cooking wine..and onions..and fricking sterliser! ..
but did they get the message!?
oh no..
it was their fault..i gave them the chance to quietly step away from the crime scene..
but when it came to it..a lethal dose of vinegar and lemonjuice had to be administered...

Chandra · 26/04/2006 17:41

"lethal dose of vinegar and lemonjuice had to be administered"????? Shock

It is kinder just to squash them Wink

TinyGang · 26/04/2006 17:47

Er..counselling for a snail seems a bit of an over reaction to me.

Ok, I wouldn't exactly say well done, or encourage children to be deliberatley mean. But I go mad if there afe flies about and the children know I'm always in hot persuit of any fly with muderous intent. Sorry, I don't think it's a huge deal.

TinyGang · 26/04/2006 17:49
