Do you think it's necessary for your kid's names to "match"?

Was thinking about this earlier as there was a poster the other day wanting a flower name for her second dd to go with her dd1's flower name. I thought ... hmmm, then realised that my kids' names "match" in the sense that they are all gaelic!

And I once knew a woman with three girls called Sharon, Tracy and Clarissa, which I thought was a little strange ...

However your siblings are only with you on a daily basis during your childhood, and for the most part of your life you will not be living with reference to them ... so how necessary is it really?

Just interested in your thoughts ...

Used to think it would be nice if they did sort of 'match'. DD has a Welsh name, DS doesn't - did try to think of one, but DH and I couldn't agree!!! Was a bit worried about it at first, but now it doesn't bother me at all, and DS's name suits him!!!!

Hazellnut - I went out with an Anthony and his sister was Anne. Did think it showed a severe lack of imagination on the part of his parents, though!!!! Grin

We are not Polish (my dh's grandfather was) but have a Polish surname and so have given them Polish names.

Is that deeply deeply suspect moondog? Grin

I think choose names you like and forget anything else, it was years before I noticed that ds and dd2 had the male and female version of the same name one as a middle name though and their initals are the same but the other way rtound..in fact only noticed when they started getting post

moondog · 25/04/2006 19:24

GS,what a sensitive flower you are!
My ds's name (Aneirin) was the subject of a post along the linesof 'OMG,Idon't believe what my brother wants to call his son!'

It made me laugh!

The names people choose for their kids invariably 'mean' one of the following..

gift of the sea
gift of God
chosen by God
