Driving Test (theory) - anyone taken it recently?

Mine is next week. I'm reading through the books atm but not sure how much is going in. When it comes to exams I have always found major cramming in the week leading up to the exam is what works for me. But it's 4 years since I have taken a formal exam.

It doesn't seem difficult to me - what worries me is the hazard perception.

Anyone have any tips for me?

Hazard perception is weird - click too many times and they fail you, don't click enough and you don't get the scores....you need to look well ahead - click at anything you think could turn into a hazard (kid on a bike on the pavement ahead - could cross in front of you: dip in the road - can't see a bloody thing) Keep you eyes peeled - they are only a couple of minutes long and 'fraid to say some of the video is very grainy....

I loved the hazard prep. The h/p CD-rom is really worth it IMO. BD is right, just keep your eyes on the horizon and click when you see anything moving/road signs/puddles on road.
I crammed the night before and passed [swanky]
Shame I have forgotten everything now

flutterbee · 25/04/2006 15:40

I f you don't have a cd rom for the hazard go get one now it was the difference between pass and fail for me. I would have crashed and burned had I not practiced so much on that damn thing, questions are easy though.

Blackduck · 25/04/2006 15:48

I didn't use a CD - depends if you think you need it - I think the key thing is look ahead and watch for anything that might become a hazard (cars reversing out of drives, kids crossing roads, ANYTHING that moves essentially!)

Thanks for replies. I am getting the CD-ROM tomorrow - a few people have recommended it. How long do you get to complete the test - 45 minutes?

yes, about that. Have you watched the dvd that came with your booking confirmation?

Blackduck · 25/04/2006 16:21

Sounds about right time wise - with the hazard perception you don't get any second chances so its straight through...the question bit I found I had loads of time and you can review if you like...

charliecat · 26/04/2006 20:49

How are getting on with the practising?
If its any help to you the night before I did mine I failed on the PC and was gutted. Got 35/35 on the day.
And i clicked everytime I saw something that MIGHT become a hazard and then click click clicked if it developed into something more.
A hazard is anything that will make you slow down or change direction.

It's going ok thanks. The CD-ROM is really good. Every time you pass a section it turns orange on your profile so you can see how much you have to do. What I'm most worried about is the hazzard perception - I seem to be cr@p at that.

click if you see anything that may cause you to slow down/stop. Then click again if it gets in your way/makes you slow down /stop.
On my actual test for the hazard perception I was watching and I thought oeerrr thats a dirty great big vehicle isnt it...OH Sh*T its a bloody fire engine tanking towards me CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was rather amusingGrin

My sister has been practising on the hazard perception as she is training to be a driving instructor. Can everyone please pray for any pedestrians. She keeps failing the hazards that have pedestrians in them, and passing the ones with sheep!!

Socci · 27/04/2006 23:04

Socci · 07/05/2006 14:44
