DSs first bath was at 3 weeks jsut before he came out of hospital, DD had one the night she was born as she did a poo that no wet wipe or cotton wool and water would clean up!

beetroot · 21/04/2006 23:53

so we are not taling about Tomcat but Tom andf Kate who have had their baby??? what was it?? and when did it happen????

PinkTulips · 21/04/2006 23:55

over here (ireland) they tell you not to wash them for the first week as it damages the protective oils on the skin. dd had loadsa hair though and there was blood and gunk dried into it so the nurse took pity and gave her a shampoo!

OMG! I knew it, our hospitals have been taken over by scientologist midwives!!!

babyonboard · 22/04/2006 12:26

yep - our hospital wouldn't let us bath ds. they said it's not worth it,and it's bad for them as they get really cold.

he smelt like steak..or so dp said..lol

galaxy · 22/04/2006 12:46

dd wasn't washed until she was about 12 hours old. Bathed on day 2

BadHair · 22/04/2006 12:48

Dses weren't bathed for well over a week, in fact ds1 was 3 weeks as I just couldn't pluck up the courage to try to bath him. They were just wiped down after birth and had face and bum washes until first bath.

galaxy · 22/04/2006 13:11

I was quite surprised that the hospital insisted on her having a bath on day 2. I had been told that she just needed a wash with cotton wool and water

moondog · 22/04/2006 17:44

Bob,I remember that steak smell so well.
I seem to recall liberal overtones of parsnip and tea too.

babyonboard · 22/04/2006 19:32

lmao moondog Grin

niceglasses · 22/04/2006 19:32

It is the smell of an unwashed newborn that makes me really really wanna have number four.

hester · 22/04/2006 19:52

My dd had a bath about two days after birth, but didn't have a hairwash for ages. The result was that various gunky bits (innards, maybe!) set hard in her hair, where they still sit six months on, gathering clumps of hair and refusing to let them go. She has a mohican full of dreadlocks - quite a natty look on a small baby, I think Smile

yoyo · 22/04/2006 19:59

Didn't bath DS for a couple of weeks. DDs said he smelt of bacon!

Elf1981 · 22/04/2006 20:01

DD was washed until day four, only as the midwife showed me how to bath her! They said to leave it as long as possible because the vernix (or placebo as my sister called it!) was good for their skin.
stoopid newspapers!
