infanrix-hib: how do i surgery to order it?

having read other posts referencing mercury free DTP, i have tried (unsucessfully) this morning to get my 8 month baby the 'infanrix-hib vaccine. hv says they are not allowed to breach (pca?) guidelines. Has anyone managed to challange their practice ? do i have the option to ask another surgery? I was under the impression that all surgeries carried the vaccine for children that have history of low immunity or family background of chrohn's disease/ autism. i know in scotland if you order it by name they will get it for you. I live in devon so i'm stuck to know what to do next.

I just asked for them and got them. the mercury free I think is the one that older children have as a booster anyway, so they should have it in. have you done a search on other threads? this was discussed quite recently. with my hv, she always refers me to my gp if it's anything medical - as opposed to social.

Hi,

I don?t want to start anther vaccination war thread with this but, (here goes anyway), has anyone actually looked at Infanrix. We?ve all had a look at the normal DTP vacs and got rather scared about the presence of Mercury, but IMO Infanrix is just as bad:
Grown on Bovine tissue (dead Cow?s to you and me). Allegedly BSE free
Cleansed with formaldehyde, a known carcinogenic.
Then to top it all, stored in aluminum hydroxide. Again, another well-known neuro-inhibitor.

thanks BUNDLE, have also tried gp and she gave the old its not 'bad' mercury its the 'good' mercury routine. it might depend on where i live.

thanks VALA - its so bloomin' hard to know what to do- damned it i do, damned if i don't. i live in an area which has very low intake which makes me nervous, i've managed to keep him away from the hv until he had his hearing check today and she asked me why hadn't i vaccinated and how i'm putting him at risk. what did you do?

shrub, my gp printed out some info for me, and I read it and she said is that still what you want? and I said yes, so she said that'll mean one extra needle than if you had the triples together - along with the menC - so I said ok. the stuff she gave me had a long list of mercury-free vaccines of all kinds on it.
the pca you mentioned might be the pct - primary care trust - a group of primary carers, or gps in your area. they may have a policy on this but I can't imagine it's hard & fast. I work with a few scientists and one of them said to me that there wasn't much difference between 'good' and 'bad' mercury!

Unfortunately, I didn?t find out about the Mercury DTP issue until I returned to work and found Mumsnet. By which time DS had already had his standard DTP vacs
If I had known earlier, I would not have had him vaccinated at all, but that?s just me.
Decided to go the same way with MMR too. If in doubt leave it out approach.

shrub, if you want I could photocopy the info my gp gave me, let me know if you'd like it and I'll send it

Hi Shrub, your HV should be able to get this for you no problem as it is NHS approved and issued if requested, as on their website -

NHS Website

click on "Thiomersal (mercury) in vaccines - Click here for factsheet" on the right hand side of the page.

shrub I'm in Devon and the surgery practice nurse was happy to order me infanrix if I wanted it (decided not to vaccinate in the end but that's a different matter).

The reason they may get shirty is that after the hib probelms recently they have tried to stop infants getting infanrix (as it is aP rather than wP) However the States and Aus use it. NOt quite sure how the aP/wP is relevant to hib- never managed to find out. Anyway when they intoduced the hib booster they wrote to surgeries saying that infants had to be given the thimerosil containing stuff.

before you give thimerosil jabs- if you have a problem background I strongly suggest that you search for metallothionein autism walsh- and you'll find some very interesting work.

If you refuse to give anything except thimerosil free I expect they will back down.
