OK I am dim, but what do you do with fabric conditioner?

Have bought some Fairy fabric conditioner - never used it before (inspired by nursery washing DS's pooed-on trousers and they came back all soft! not crispy like my washing!)

The instructions just say put a capful in the drawer. When? At the start of a normal wash? I put the tablets in the drawer - does it go in with them? Or in the other drawer?

Thanks

Who knows, uncomfortable, non-fabric-softened crispy trousers could account for his stroppy atitude at bedtime!

(or maybe not...)

don't get too excited - my money's on the nursery-washed trousers being soft from a tumble dryer, not from fabric condtioner.

Personally I love the smell (think it's a Lenor one I like best) but DH hates it, won't have it in the house, claims it makes him feel ill etc so I don't use it.
Do have a ruinously expensive Yankee Candle Co. 'Clean Cotton' scented thingy hanging in the airing cupboard though - doesn't make the towels smell but does waft lovely fresh-air scent every time I open the door.

But I do have a tumble drier and sometimes use it - but never achieve the delicious squishy nursery softness...

Funny that there is a scented thingy called "clean cotton" for scenting your cupboard full of clean cotton items!

While we're down this domestic dead end, I have also recently bought some ironing water - sainsbury's jasmine and lychee flavour. DP flabbergasted that such a thing exists.

Do be aware that fabric conditioner can affect the absorbency of towels.

I don't use it as it affects dd's sensitive skin. I find that stuff dried on the radiator goes more crispy than stuff in the tumble dryer.

Even I buy ironing water, but that's because I'm a bad person who would just fill it from the tap otherwise (killed a few irons that way)

My washing machine refuses to suck the conditioner from the drawer so I've started to use the conditioer capsules that go in the drum. The Comfort Pure ones smell scrummy.

[shame] about my clean-cotton-scented clean cotton cupboard!
but it does mean they smell like they've just come off the line in the sun all the time, and surely happy towels=happy MrsB=happy Badger household? can I use that argument? Wink

wtf is ironing water????!!!!

serenity · 20/04/2006 13:12

Smelly water you stick in your iron. Makes the whole house smell nice as you iron, and doesn't clag it up with limescale and whatnot. Aromatherapy as you work Grin

sandyballs · 20/04/2006 13:16

Serenity - my washing machine refused to accept the condition as well. Never heard of the ones you put in the drum - do you mean in the washing machine - or the dryer. If the washing machine, doesn't it rinse it all away too soon?

serenity · 20/04/2006 13:29

In the washing machine. I have no idea how it works, I'd imagine it's some technical thing about the plastic coating. they definitely work though.

Let me find a link......

I just put a bit of white vinegar in at the same time as my ecover powder (two caps approx), works a treata t softening.

people iron their towels?

I have seen some little balls that you can use again and again that 'fluff up' your washing in the tumble dryer; little plastic jobbies with bobbles all over them.

ironing water smells foul and false imho. I put a couple of drops of lavender or orange essential oil in the water for the iron instead
