All ideas accepted... though they may not be used and you won't even get a passing mention in the programme.... well maybe a passing mention Grin

The biggest difficulty (if you'll pardon the pun) is how to "grow" Alice and "shrink" her. I need some creative ideas for this.

Good ideas for props etc and making spectacular costumes on a shoestring.

Many thanks. I leave it in your capable hands Grin Grin

oi!
no putting on plays till you've finished your Polanski essay!

Meanwhile, sets that grow and shrink (even just a few key components like the trees and the table) are pretty good - did you see the Nutcracker production where the christmas tree grew just by raising the backdrop?

MadameDeMars · 19/04/2006 16:52

lol!

This is for my daughter's end of year performance lol. It's a welcome break.

At the moment I'm trying to find the definition of the word meta-dramatic sigh.................

No I didn't see the Nutcracker.... explain more my lovely. Grin

ah, well, may be a bit complex for your show but the concept is sound:

There was a backcloth with a 8ft-ish triangular Christmas tree on it.
When Clara shrank to mouse size in the dream sequence, the backcloth was slowly raised, exposing the lower half that had been hidden behind the stage, so the top of the tree got higher and higher, and the base got wider and wider, ending up so just the base of a huge tree was visible. Then of course on ran the mice etc with large-scale props.

Of course this only works perfectly with a triangle, but I reckon you could get away with disproportionate strecthing in Alice, so the door (or whatever) need only get taller, rather than taller and wider.

Fantastic MrsB....

Will you be my best friend? lol You've proved to be rather helpful today.

I used your words for my opening sentence for my assignment btw. Lovely!

it's my secret calling as a drama luvvie - uses muscles my science job doesn't reach!

A visual 'whooshing and whirling' sort of scene, at the end of which a miniture doll of Alice is left on stage, and perhaps passed round the audience, with voice overs of 'help meeeeee' etc. then more whooshing and whirling, blackout, actors tumble back on stage, Alice looking at herself and saying 'I've shrunk' etc.

MadameDeMars · 19/04/2006 17:23

the black out may be difficult, but will give more thought to the whoosing and whirling. Sounds rather good!

Physical theatre scene with the kids all doing a sort of rugger-scrum vortex, out of which the mini-Alice gets spat.

You can manage without a black out, I think.

Lots of ensemble stylisation.

e.g, they all stand in a line facing forwards, and, storytelling style, say in a 'mexican wave' "she got smaller, and smaller..." and as they say it turn round, one by one. When all are turned round, they all, on cue, turn back, with an ENORMOUS Alice dress, but with no Alice. The real Alice then runs on stage wearing just her vest and pants or petticoat.

MadameDeMars · 19/04/2006 17:33

wow! Like it. Not sure how "Alice" would appreciate the knickers and vest bit though lol!
