Please list

What you use?
Whats good about it?
Whats bad about it?

Just the three things so I can make an educated decision.

I had Guinot, a French one, professionally applied last month. I am very fair skinned and it looked brilliant, quite a subtle golden colour. I'd never had a brown tummy before! It cost 35 quid so it won't be a regular thing and lasted about 5 days.

clairemow · 20/04/2006 09:23

I have used the Boots Soltan one a few times - v. inexpensive, smells fine, goes on easily, and doesn't streak unless you use too many layers and/or put it on too thick over ankles/knees etc. Also exfoliate and moisturise first - that really helps avoid any streakiness.

mykidsmum · 20/04/2006 09:24

mykidsmum wanders in with her naturally olive skin and then wanders out again before someone chucks something at her Grin

peanutbutter · 20/04/2006 09:32

fake bake really doesn't streak - i'm lazy and can't be bothered exfoliating and stuff; i just have a good rub at my elbows and whatnot with my loofah in the shower beforehand, and then just apply fake bake everywhere. makes a mess of your bed sheets (needs a few hours) and you'll freak when you see yourself in the mirror, but it's really only a colour marker to show you where you've put it. In the morning, after your shower, you'll see a lovely even golden tan and it looks completely natural imo (i'm quite olive skinned already tho..)

oliveoil · 20/04/2006 09:34

fake tan is minging

stinks and most look fake

why would you spend ££££ on something that lasts a few days?

Or faff about exfoliating and rubbing in streaky cream?

No thank you!

[pale and interesting emoticon]

nulnulcat · 20/04/2006 10:10

love my fake bake and st tropez but at the moment am using johnsons holiday skin im olive skinned anyway so use the one for dark skin and one application gives me a really nice colour

eidsvold · 20/04/2006 10:21

move to Aus and no need for it Grin feel free to throw rotten fruit!!

Ledodgy · 20/04/2006 10:22

Here here, olive oil. I don't understand how these women with orangy faces can think they look good. Just the latest craze I guess.

scienceteacher · 20/04/2006 11:54

Olay Everyday Sunshine

It's a proper Olay moisturiser and it gives a gradual buildup of colour, and it's SPF15

Nothing bad about it.

mythumbelinas · 20/04/2006 11:59

i've used loreal sublime bronze for years and i haven't been sussed out and when i told somebody they said couldn't tell, it's v natural.
i only use it for my legs tho since they are shades lighter than anywhere else. I don't get stains as i do it last thing when i have a moment to rest w/o kids.
Bought johnson's holiday skin this year to give it a try.
Haven't used it yet as still in jeans, but my sis has and she loves it. It's def given her a sublte tan and taken the pale shine away.

3catstoo · 20/04/2006 13:13

I tried St Tropez in the winter on my legs knowing they would be hidden. Next day I looked no different but had a yukky smell about me that gave me a rotten headache. Not cheap either! Needless to say the rest went in the bin!
So I'll be the one with milk bottle legs in the school playground.!!!

Is there really any fake tan that doesn't have that nasty smell that doesn't go even after numerous showers?

Mfer · 20/04/2006 14:00

Banana Boat Summer Colour Sunless lotion (american)
Good point - easy to use doesn't streak I use the lotion to start and top up with the mousse (its tinted so you can see where you've put it).
Cheapish £7 - £8
Hard to get hold of - I buy over the phone.

meysey · 20/04/2006 15:27

green people fake tan
not too chemically and poisonous
good colour for a light to medium skinned person (not like gravy browning from some other tans)
nice smell, though typical fake tan smell develops eventually!
doesn't streak too much

how about a "my worst fake tan experience" thread??

my worst one is with posh french brand when in paris for a few days for work. it went all blotchy and I only had short-sleeved tops with me as it was Summer.I was completely mortified

canadianmum · 20/04/2006 19:32

clarins gel is the best for my fair (fish belly white as a friend calls it) skin.

but I still can't get the wrists right....hmmmmm....ankles sometimes a problem too.....

but faketan virgins beware, fake tan makes you feel slim and sexy.....for about 15 mins Grin

and you effortlessly olive skinned types can just leave us veiny blue types alone!! Grin

bubblepop · 20/04/2006 21:49

hey you lot! when on earth do you get time to apply it?

Lauraa83 · 20/04/2006 22:18

I had st tropez professionally applied yesterday....for the first (and last) time

It is nice to have an all over tan (stopped using sunbed-wanted sumthin safer!) but I do have a few streaks and I am naturally pale so it does look a bit orange too...........also, I have been wondering what this smell is until I read this thread seriously I smell of old coppers after a bath too!

I am going to try a spray tan next time, they're only £12 this cost me £30!

I have tried johnsons holiday skin, as I said I'm really pale, the light one is best for me but still a bit too fake looking, not a very nice colour at all. The dark one really is dark, it goes dark brown streaky on me lol.

I tried a cheaper version from savers chemist, Nuage the make is, £1.49 and it's much better than johnsons.

I have also heard good things about the dove one, so will try that next time, I also have the garnier one but haven't used it yet:)

So really after reading this it seems they all work best on olive skin anyway so what do us milkbottles do? Actually, beautician told me the dermlogica one was best for pale skin but I said I'd have St Tropez as I'd always heard it was the best so probably my fault:o

titchy · 21/04/2006 09:46

I tried the Boots Soltan gradual summer moisturiser last night - very subtle, which is good if you're a paley like me! And smells OK too! DH has been using it all week (grrrrr!) and looks quite natural too. I probabky won't use it everyday - maybe every other day. No streaks yet either!

wabbitintheheadlamps · 21/04/2006 13:01

bubblepop - I don't know about others but i've got a 'sliding door' kind of thing going on... parallel worldy IYKWIM

My alter ego feeds, cleans, helps, plays etc with kiddies and cleans house or does uni work whilst I get the chance to wax, pluck eyebrows, fake tan, moisturise, do make-up and nails etc...

the two merge when I return through slidey door thingy...

I WISH Grin

expectingsummerihope · 21/04/2006 13:49

Have tried practically all of them and with disappointing results. I am mega pale and they always come out streaky. This happened even when I had it applied professionally.

kimi · 21/04/2006 22:43

going to morocco next week and decided to try not to look so pasty, so tryed the dove body lotion that world build up to a sun kissed glow.....
result after 3 applications..... i look like i have been tangoed! oh well such is life.

drosophila · 22/04/2006 19:29

I have used St Tropez, Clarins, Patsy Palmer (it's real) and another fairly expensive one. Have been using Fake for years (really pale and people comment). Anyway I think the best for me was Patsy Palmer one BUT the spray is shite. Wish she did a better bottle. Might try Fake Bake this year.

Doriannah · 22/04/2006 22:18

Used the Loreal spray Mist and it really is as easy as the advert says!Grin Just spray it on and away you go...didnt stop me looking like I had been tangoed though! As long as you dont mind looking orange, its brilliant! Not too smelly, no orange palms or fingernails and very quick!!

mosschops30 · 22/04/2006 22:36

ooh doriannah was it the loreal sublime mist spray one? I am desparate to try it
