Who is the Easter Bunny?

DD is 4 and has been saying she's really excited about the Easter Bunny coming. I asked at her nursery what he does and was told to look it up on the internet. But I haven't really found out what to do.

She's only got 2 Easter eggs as she chose them herself so can I pretend he brought them to the house and hid them? She's asking me if he's real and I come out with a vague answer like If you believe he's real, he's real.

We don't really do Easter. We're not religious although I've explained about Jesus dying (without the nailing to the cross bit) and coming back and that's why we celebrate Easter. But there's too much chocolate around for my liking, and if they then start getting presents instead, where does that leave birthdays and Christmas?

But all she says is "but what about the Easter Bunny?"

I'm lost. Any help?

My mum always said easter bunny but she made sure we all knew she was the easter bunny from day one.

I would hate for my child to think that easter was another Christmas and can not stand they way it is now being marketed.

We don't 'do' easter in this house either.

DD has been brought some eggs by other people (not us!).

I did hide mini eggs around the house and she 'hunted' them but that was it really.

I would just tell her that Easter bunny makes all the eggs in the shops.

I remember being at first school and the Easter bunny came and left big white foot prints everywhere, now I'm not suggesting you do this.. but perhaps you could leave a letter from the Bunny just saying what a good girl she is and what a lovely Spring it should be?! It doesn't have to be about chocolate, how many children are more excited by Santa coming and eating the biscuit they've left out than the present (probably a fair few).

As a side note, Easter isn't just a Christian festival, in fact it pre-dates Christianity... But that's just me being a big fat know it all :o I would always try to make it about Spring, about regeneration and life, lambs and caterpillars, trees and flowers..
