Lush's Ultrabland - very simple and natural ingredients - I have notoriously tricky skin and haven't had a break out since I started using it. (in combo with Dermalogica's Active Moist) Make sure you take every scrap off with a muslin cloth though. Better than Eve Lom!

Coolmama · 13/04/2006 23:43

I used to work in the beauty/modelling/fashion business and can honestly say that the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish really does what it says - truly amazing and I will not be without it now - I don't use her other stuff - for me the C and P is enough to have fab skin -

monkeytrousers · 14/04/2006 09:20

Really Coolmama? Not regular facials and chemical peels? Will that on it's own help?

The real question is whether you ever saw a model with dodgy skin who was transformed for the catwalk/photo shoot? Doesn't Cameron Diaz have acne?

monkeytrousers · 14/04/2006 09:26

I just checked out the ingredients and it has cocoa butter in it which doesn't work well with my skin at all.

Piffle · 14/04/2006 10:52

eve lom is the best truly truly worth every penny, similar in premise to liz earle although eve lom been doing it for longer.
also I like the l'oreal micro dermabrasion for a twice weekly exfoliate

Piffle, honest to god I used Eve Lom and it was great as you've said but Lush's Ultrabland is made of almost exactly the same ingredients - the essential ones anyway - and works just as well. It's a fraction of the price too.

cupcakes · 14/04/2006 11:03

I'll never find out how good Lush is as I can't bear to step foot in there - the smell is overpowering!

Coolmama · 14/04/2006 12:20

Hey MT - no peels or dermabrasions or such like - the idea with the cloth (liz earle, eve lom, and Neal's yard do one now too) is that the cloth acts as enough of a gentle daily exfoliator. The other thing you want to be aware of is to go easy on all the peels etc as they thin the skin and can make you more sensitive leading to product sensitivity and redness - if you are using one of these "cloth cleansers" I would avoid any other exfoliation for a few weeks and see how your skin reacts -

jabberwocky · 14/04/2006 12:58

I have used this routine for years and it is cheap and works great.
Night:

  1. a good cleansing bar
  2. witch hazel for toning and getting any leftover make-up off
  3. cocoa butter for moisturizing

Day: a light moisturizer with sunscreen under make-up

monkeytrousers · 14/04/2006 13:55

I use Ultrabland but I do take it off with a muslin cloth. I have dermalogica's Gentle Cream Exfoliant (with hydroxy acid complex) once a week. Does that sound okay to you?

starlover · 15/04/2006 19:40

ditto cupcakes! i can't stand the smell of lush... makes me gag halfway down the street!

I'll second liz earle's hot cloth cleanser, it's lovely. I also used to go for guinot hydradermie facials, which I think helped my skin, but that was pre-ds! Don't really have the time or the money for that now... The only thing that really sorted out my skin was getting pregnant Grin
Another good product if you wear make-up is bare escentuals mineral foundation - a very light, natural powder which doesn't clog pores. There is a knack to applying it but I think you get instructions and it's dead easy.

winnie · 15/04/2006 20:25

tatties, I too had amazingly good skin when I was pregnant!

monkeytrousers · 15/04/2006 22:46

Oh, mine was shit - progesterone acne! Blurggh!

Coolmama · 16/04/2006 12:57

Sounds fine MT - the point is not to go overboard with the exfoliation etc as you just end up stripping the skin - definitely not good.
