I've heard that just because you pay a fee doesn't necessarily make it legal though...

If it is described as P2P or peer-to-peer then it is NOT legal so avoid.

Ok, from looking around I have come to the conclusion that the legitimate sites are the ones like Virgin or Napster, where you pay say £10 a month for downloads and the dodgy ones are where you pay a small one off fee.

allofmp3.com. Pay 8-10 cents per song, and it says its legal, something to do with being Russian and there being a loophole in their laws. I came on here asking the same thing, and I seem to remember hub2dee recommending this to me. Have been so far pretty happy with it - lots of old 80's stuff, as well as all new stuff. Haven't been able to not find anything I wanted.
