I don't know if anyone saw on the news, but three children and an adult were killed in a house fire yesterday evening, in Beswick (Manchester). The children were a girl of 14 months, a boy of three, and a boy of five. The lady was mother to the two youngest children and she was 21. It happened at around 18:30, on Thursday. The eldest child was the ladys nephew, and another nephew (10) escaped the blaze, and raised the alarm.
I would like to pay my respects, for the youngsters who died, the mother who died with them, the mother who lost a child, the brother who lost a brother, and the partner of the lady in the house, who has lost his whole family.
Thankyou.

I know Harman, they live close to me, and it's hard to take in. I don't really have the right to be, but I am quite upset. I didn't mention the father of the nephew in the house, unintentionally of course. I'm sorry.

Levanna, you have every right to be upset and i think it's lovely of you to think of them and start this thread, i think it would be sad if it didn't affect you. i hadn't heard the story but thinks it's so tragic. May they rest peacefully.

I work for the Fire Service, and see the devestating effects fire has daily. This really is a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to all involved and touched by it.
If nothing else go and check your smoke detectors right now.

Thanks to everyone who looked in on this. You're right Lisa78, funnymummy has made a good point. There were smoke detectors in this house, apparently. But the batteries had run out . I know several people who've taken the batteries out of theirs in the past, 'cause they're sick of them going off when they burn toast, and things like that! I too hope what has happened helps people see the importance of having smoke detectors up and running, and a 'plan of action' in case of fire aswell. I remember staff from the local fire station used to come into school and run through this sort of thing with us, do they still do that?
