Hi, just started training for this last week. Anyone else?

think the websit has a good training plan on, it involves starting by walking for 5 mins then running for 5 mins and builds up.

I'm doing the race for life as well... I need some help...
when is the best time to go...food wise.... I've nearly always just eaten or I'm hungry!
How about drink... the training guides say keep drinking but I end up with stitch...
how about food... do you eat more pasta/carborhydrates ?? or just carry on as normal..

My Iron level have gone up now so I am no longer Anaemic.. so I'm starting to train again. I have my race for life on June 4th.

I went out tonight with son on his bike (bless him) and I walked for 2 mins and jogged for 2 mins.. tomorrow morning I think I will just go for brisk walk...

anyone got any tips for me...

my dd is doing this on 1st july

Rummum - I usually run at least an hour after eating but it depends what I've eaten and how much. If you are feeling hungry then eat half a banana half an hour before you go out and drink lots after your food so you don't need to drink so much on the run.
As for drinking while you are running its just training your stomach to accept it, take very, very small sips of water or a watered down isotonic drink every 5 minutes or so. If you get a stitch you have either drunk too much or you are running too fast.

Goodluck :)!

how is the training going pesme...

pesme · 25/04/2006 11:32

it was going really well until i got ill now i am back to square one. don't know when i will be well enough to start again. everyone is all 'don't worry you can walk it' but that is not the point i wanted to run it to prove i can get fit again. heh ho.

how is your training?

OP posts:
rummum · 25/04/2006 11:39

Well.... what can I say.... I started yesterday.
I went out yesterday for 15 mins.. nearly killed me... I walked for 2 mins then jogged for 2 mins. This morning my legs really ache! After I dropped the kids off at school this morning I walked about a mile round the local woods and fields... felt good..

Are you changing your eating habits...
do you walk much anyway or do you do anything to keep fit?

pesme · 25/04/2006 11:48

I was reasonably fit before dd but that was 3 years ago! THe run walk thing is really good i found it helped build my confidence. I will have to wait a few days before I can start again and will be back to square one which is v. depressing.

I would like to change my eating habits! but haven't so far.

Pesme, you still have several weeks and once you are well you will probably bounce back really quickly. Don't give up the idea of doing it yet but don't do something you don't feel comfortable with, there will be plenty more runs to do.

pesme · 25/04/2006 13:38

thanks, i am feeling abit sorry for myself as the reason i am so unfit is i always seem to end up with a cold when i start exercise.

will keep at it as i have raised alot of money and hve to go through with it.

Myself and a group of my mates are doing it on Blackheath Common on 2nd July - we are all different abilities to one girl who balks at running for the bus to me who runs 5k every other day - but we are all going to give it a go and try and raise lots of ££££!!!!

(I have made a promise that I am going to run the marathon before I am 35 too - terrified about it now but I will do it - after watching the programme on Beeb 1 last night about it I am deffinately going to!!!)

Norah · 25/04/2006 13:49

I'm doing it at end of June - just started training this weekend ! I'm following the ZEST book "Running made easy" plan - which is basically run for 1 min walk for 3 - repeat 4 times, then builds up to run 3 mins, walk 1 min etc - and for longer periods !

Pesme - don't worry about it - my bottom line is that I know I can walk it - it's only 3 miles after all - and you still get the sponsorship if you walk it - so what the heck ?

I am aiming to mainly run - but expect I will walk a bit too ! Just depends how training goes ! One of my knees is a bit achey atm - so will have to see if that developes into anything !
