I almost vomited on the treadmill at the gym tonight.
4 weeks ago I couldnt even run for 2 minutes, on Sunday I ran for 17 so tonight decided to go for 20. I am normally knackered when I'm fnished but this was different, I really thought I was going to be sick, couldnt do anything else then as felt dizzy and lightheaded.

Whats happened, have I gone too far too soon?

had you had enough fluid beforehand?

vomiting after serious exercise isn't that uncommon, especially when you're starting out

Probably - there's an ideal training zone for your heart - a certain % above your resting heart rate. If you are working too hard and go above this, you go into an "anaerobic" state and it can make you feel v ill.

i felt sick after exerting myself on the fireman ride at lego land. i'm sooooooo unfit

foxinsocks · 11/04/2006 20:44

but it's probably better to stop before you get to that stage - so maybe hover around the 15 minute mark till you are comfortable at that stage before you go to 20 mins

(and if it happens regularly, might be worth getting a health check!)

..and as foxinsocks says - not having enough fluids beforehand can cause problems.

Is there a heart rate monitor on the treadmill? You can use this to check what level you are working at. The gym staff should be able to help you work out the ideal zone.

Yes, I've had that feeling before.
Pushed myself far to far trying to impress DH who was in the gym at the time too. He's never seen me running so thought I'd show off a bit!

I failed to impress him when I could hardly stand up afterwards and was a white as a sheetGrin

Mosschops30 · 11/04/2006 20:48

really, i thought it was something dreadful if you were sick.
Glad I'm not going to die any time soon, will just stick to 15 minutes from now on, didnt achieve anything by running for longer

my heart rate was only 156 when I stopped running which isnt particularly high, its within the cardio zone for my age

yes, sounds fine mosschops - just take it a bit easier and add more minutes gradually
