Which toy has your DD/DS got that makes you cringe everytime they want to play with it?

This thread has been inspired by me finding (hidden away out of sight Wink) the totally ridiculous, useless toy "real" oven that MIL bought for DD.

It was used once and stuffed under a bed until now.

From what I remember it took an hour to cook 2 biscuits and then the safety mechanism meant you couldn't open the oven to get them out until it had cooled down ( so about another 45 mins later) by which time we had all died of boredom .

Everytime DD has mentioned playing with it since I've managed to steer her away from it Smile

Hideous police car with american accent 'Woo, woo , woo, come out with your hands up', 'license and registraion' followed by Bad Boys tune. (Theme tune to Cops, a programme everyone watches when they first got Sky when they were 15).

madmarchhare · 11/04/2006 16:02

watched

DS has a Tigger phone that my mother bought him for Christmas. It's sodding annoying, and you can't turn the effing thing off.

"Hello there friend, are you calling about the picnic? You're invited you know"

"Sorry, no messages for ya"

Grr, it makes me feel homocidal

Cappucino · 11/04/2006 16:47

Enid I know what that is...

I just remembered we also had a weird toy made in Japan or something that some relative bought off the market. It was completely ungrammatical and asked questions like 'how many are the stars?' in a really odd accent.

It got inexplicably lost.

BettySpaghetti · 11/04/2006 17:01

The Barbie Poodle Parlour sounds horrendous Cappucino -as if Barbie isn't bad enough as it is, they have to drag fluffy topiary-style animals into it!

Betty it has a 'shower attachment' and if you squirt water on the poodle its fur turns a different colour.

We also have the annoying train mentioned by Wharfrat. Its been hiden many times since my dm bought it for ds2.Grin

cjmummy · 11/04/2006 18:43

we've also got the tigger phone .. which we hide as it is so annoying, and totally pointless!!!

Whizzz · 11/04/2006 18:51

Rumble in the Jungle - a good game BUT takes forever to set up & put away !!

juliab · 11/04/2006 18:54

DS3 got given this ambulance with wailing sirens that plays the ER theme tune if you touch one button (and sometimes even if you don't) and shouts out 'Emergency, emergency, what's your ETA' if you touch another. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

Furball · 11/04/2006 18:55

Ds has a steering wheel from ELC that you 'drive' round a track shown on a little screen, it's sooo loud - that everytime he gets it out I suggest he plays with it in the hallway!

BethAndHerBrood · 11/04/2006 21:22

LOL at Enid - think I might be to blame!!BlushGrin

Bozza · 12/04/2006 08:58

Aah that tigger phone was the one I meant. I wouldn't mind but the person who bought it has a similar aged child so should know better.... It is going in my next toy box cull. Because it doesn't turn off if you put something down on top of it or even bang into the toy box it starts off and goes through a whole heap of annoying little messages before it shuts up.

Ranting? Me? Grin

Dophus · 12/04/2006 09:09

The worst is a V-tec walker that has loads of irritating noises on it - a cat being strangled; 'B is for bear' etc. DS will sit for hours prssing the dame button over and over again.

closely followed by the Vtech driving one:

'driver won't you blow; driver won't you blow, driver won't you blow your horn: beep, beep!'

A V-tech ball:
'come along and play with me there's so much for us to see.'

foxinsocks · 12/04/2006 09:20

dd has those barbie dolls that sing - erika and whatsherface (is it annelise?) - the enid tune!

they are supposed to sing in duet but in reality, even if you press the buttons at EXACTLY the same time, they start singing a millisecond out and all the notes clash and it is really really horrid

luckily erika has run out of batteries and annelise now sounds like she's in drag the voice is so low

foxinsocks · 12/04/2006 09:21

dophus, both mine used that v-tech walker. Just reading your description of the noises brings it all back!

MerlinsBeard · 12/04/2006 09:22

I find the most annoying and spooky toys are the ones with the batteries running out. Ds pressed a Barney toy in Toys R Us once and it said "I want to be your friend" but in a scary running out of power voice and now he is terrified of Barney!!!!

Enid · 12/04/2006 09:24

yeah thanks beth GrinWink

edam · 12/04/2006 09:27

I was once on a car journey and someone had chucked a Furby in the boot. We were driving along, chatting, when suddenly we heard this voice saying 'atishoo!'. Damn thing moaned for 150 miles... and by the time we got to our destination it had died through lack of attention!

Cappucino · 12/04/2006 09:42

edam we have a lala teletubby that says 'big hug' and 'eh-oh' whenever something so much as touches it. It ended up in a black bin bag of soft toys when we were moving house and everytime the thing was chucked out of the house/ into the van/ over a bump in the road it started going 'eh-oh' - made me laugh every time

foxinsocks rofl at your dolls - have you seen the video? it makes you want to pull all your teeth out
