How much did you pay? I fancy getting one for the summer here in Poole/Bournemouth this year. Not quite sure where to start.
TIA

My friend bought one in Whitstable, then they got trendy and the prices rockedtted. Tracy Emin had one just up from my mates and there seemed to be a whole row of Londonders.

We had some truly brilliant times there until she sold it. It kept being vandalised and she was having to spend more time and money on it than she had.

But that's Whitstable.

If I were you I'd go and talk to the other beach hut owners to see how you get on and ask about vandalism and prices.

usually ads for them to hire/buy in local press.

elastamum · 10/04/2006 21:01

You can rent them through the sandbanks beach office by the week. they are quite expensive. the wait list for one long term is years long and you have to be a resident. Long term rent is about £700 per year

There is one for sale in Burton Bradstock (Dorset) for £500K!! I kid you not. It was sold for £142K ten years ago.

Surfermum · 10/04/2006 21:04

You could try asking your local friendly lifeguard.

(And they're chalets, not beach huts!)

Sparkerleur · 10/04/2006 21:06

ooooh terribly sorry surfermum - chalets (ahem!) of course! Grin

Do you know of anyone that rents them out? I don't want one long term. Just fancied renting one for summer hols for a week or two.

We have one in Whitstable. Have had it yonks. Is brill. We use it loads all year round. I think they're going for between £8k and £15k at the moment depending on position and condition. At Tankerton (where ours is) they have beach hut watch and vandalism has decreased a lot. We've only had one attempted break in, which we were notified about the next day.

yoyo · 10/04/2006 21:11

Posey - are you allowed to stay overnight in it?

poorme · 10/04/2006 21:12

i would love to rent one in southwold! excuse my alias cant be arsed to change it!

Surfermum · 10/04/2006 21:12

The council will rent them for a day or a week.

I once got changed in one of those beach huts with 11 other lifeguards. It was very cosy and it was certainly no time to be modest.

chjlly · 10/04/2006 21:13

Shock you got 11 in one of those and had space to change!!!!!!!

Surfermum · 10/04/2006 21:17

There were elbows and bums in places I didn't know I had! But yes, we did manage to get out of wet swimming costumes and into some clothes.

Posey · 10/04/2006 21:17

I don't think you are supposed to but some people do. We haven't mainly because it is absolutely pitch black down there at night and is a bit of a hike to the loos. Also they're not huge. But main reason is we've always had kids who would be scared!!! Actually I think I'm rather pleased of the excuse, I'm not sure I would want to stop overnight in it.
