Do you need a passport to visit Ireland?

I know it's a dumb question, but DD1 has been invited to go to Ireland with friends and they asked if she had a passport (which she currently doesn't!).

I didn't know that you needed a passport for Ireland. So, do you know?

to whom it may concern is sincerely, faithfully is only when it is addressed to a sepcific person.

so if i wanted to go away without a passport where could i go? i did used to have a passport but i lost it about 6 years ago. just wondering because dp and i would like to go to cork or possibly amsterdam for a weekend but neither of us have a passport so because we are skint if we pay for passports we wont be able to afford to go away iyswim. ta

Actually it's Dear Sir with Yours faithfully, and Yours sincerely when it's addressed to a specific person
