French cheque?

Want to buy something on ebay from France but the seller doesn't take paypal and will only accept my bid if I agree to pay by French cheque or international mandate. First of all, can you get a French cheque without a French bank account? And is international mandate just paying into their account?

I think when people say international mandate, they mean international bank transfer, yes. (it's possible there's some sort of international banker's draft though and they could mean that). phone your bank and ask about charges for the former and whether or not the latter exists. charges will be at least 8 pounds, more likely around 15 if that helps.

french cheque - no idea. I doubt it though (and I run a company which trades in several countries - I know a bit about moving money around!)

Might be cheaper to fly over with Ryanair and buy the damn thing myself!

not if you want to take a suitcase it wouldn't be (ryanair NOT my fave company at the moment!)

Ooooh, senorapostrophe, did you get caught for "extra" baggage! Michael O'Leary sucks eggs in hell!
Anyway, someone got in there before me with buy it now so French cheque is a moot point!

Grinhe does doesn't he?

it's not the 2.50 a case thing so much as the rule that says you can't share your baggage allowance with anyone else, so if I want to take our full allowance I have to take a separate bag for ds and dd, or pay "excess" on the big family suitcase. when i have time I'm going to write to trading standards about it: it's blatant discrimination against families. grrr
