What do you do with old towels and bedding? Can they be recycled in any way?

Bit tired-looking for a charity shop, don't think I'm allowed to put them in textile recycling bank - any other options?

I sometimes rip towels up for cloths (cleaning the bath etc)

Sheets we use for the dog or keep as dust sheets for decorating.

animal charities can use them for pet bedding - always ads in our local vets

Towels and blankets can be used by animal shelters. Not sure about sheets.

That will be £5 please, iota Grin

JanH - you've certainly earned your commission from KS today Grin

sorry for the hijack franch

floor towels, use them as bath mats until they wear to shreds, thats how all ours die!

Our local charity shop takes anything. They make up starter packs for those rehomed, in shelters etc & get £1 per bag from the ragman for anything unuseable.

Our textile recycling bank takes them, so do our green-box recycling chaps.

In our house most of them become rags or cloths - cut-up towels make decent flannels if you can be bothered to hem them, and rags from sheets are brilliant for everything as they don't shed fluff on mirrors, car parts, shoe polishing etc. Don't think I've ever bought a duster either...

We also save nearly-worn-out towels to take backpacking/ camping / on holiday etc then chuck them away to save luggage and laundry - not very eco-friendly though.

Also always have a towel or two in the boot of the car, and a few sheets for emergency fancy dress (been caught out once and never again...)

blimey, how do you wear out a towel? I've got somethat I got second hand from my Mum 20 years ago, and they're still going strong. I would love some new ones, but can't justify it when ther's nothing wrong with the ones I've got!

PinkTulips · 07/04/2006 16:11

i think that falls under the heading 'they don't make things like they used too' tissy!

MrsBadger · 07/04/2006 16:12

think it must be DH - he does something to them that makes the edges fray!
Though thinking about it the ones that are wearing out now are the ones he was bought to go away to school with when he was 13...
