Don't you just hate non uniform days?

The tantrums and tears and screaming and shouting because the ONE pair of trousers he wants to wear is in the wash (never mind the other pairs that are in his drawers/strewn across the bedroom floor, etc).

I always forget and am the mean mother who takes their kid to school in uniform on non-uniform days Blush (fortunately he had a spare change of normal clothes in his bag the last time).

Really hate them - I thought it would be easier with boys but it really isn't.

We have had so many tears this morning

mythumbelinas · 07/04/2006 09:07

i didn't find out it was non uniform day till dd told me late last night. She's gone to school happy with her fav clothes on at the mo. It's gone up from 50p to £1 now!
I did forget the last time. Felt so bad, i went home, got some clothes and went back to school.

agalch · 07/04/2006 09:24

I don't mind it tbh.My kids love it and they are old enough(14 and 10) to get ready on their own so it's not that big a deal.

Yes, well DS was very excited about it - but it all went horribly wrong when he couldnt find that particular pair of trousers....and he's 5.5

A lesson learnt in forward-thinking by him.

DS has gone to school in head to toe black - he is 12
He might as well have worn his sodding uniform, which is... black!
Also have been summoned to wash and dry a handwash flat dry heavy cotton sweater he wants for the disco tonight - its pissing down here...
GRRR!

OMG these have tripped me up badly before.

You tear off out of the house in the morning at 1000mph; automatic pilot on speed, barking orders at the children left right and centre. Great..made it. Just. Hang on..why are all the children dressed like that/or have mad wigs on (comic relief)????!

Screech to a halt. Bundle off highly disappointed dd who sticks out like a sore thumb - a model of sobriety in a sea of happy chaos making you look like a stern parent with no sense of fun. Knowing smug smirks from the usual super mums who read the letter.

Mad U turn - double back - pre-school twins in tow. More barking and shouting to GET A MOVE ON!! Dash home. Grab more clothes. Any will do. Back to school. Pre-school twins now in tears - mummy has clearly gone mad and keeps shouting at everyone and her eyes are bulging.

Tiptoe into the back of the class. Cold sweat. Everyone looking. Apologetic gurn to the teacher. Grab dd and stuff her into mufti clothes at the back of the class to dd's furious embarrassment. Whole class looking. Twins running amok. Teacher losing patience. We're all told off.

Sneak out but not before we have a fight with the lock on the classroom door. More disruption and red faces.

Take the luxury of a few seconds to have the first nervous breakdown of the day and it's only 9.30am. Happy daysSmile

Could always tell a non-uniform day by the dollops of hair gel in the basin. I never get the letters, I expect they go the way of all letters sent home. Therefore I have yet to discover what non-uniform days are all about. A charity presumably? The ds's claim never to know (or care) either.

I don't approve. Too much stress and pressure on the kids - especially the geeky ones who know they won't meet the fashion standards but have no idea how to do so. Last time we had one at school, I noticed all the bigger girls were wearing jackets in hot weather, because they had to cover up. Fashions at the moment are all skinny jeans and shoelace straps and belts slung across hips - not at all flattering for bigger girls.

I would not allow them if I could!

essbee · 07/04/2006 12:22

I actually find them easier! I'm always forgetting to make sure they have clean uniform..

essbee · 07/04/2006 12:23

Mind you, I wouldn't want thm all the time.

cupcakes · 07/04/2006 12:24

our non uniform days are for the pta.
I like them. Ds looks forward to them and I don't really like him wearing uniform anyway.
