My dp is a teacher - he's considering changing his job though and getting out of teaching altogether. We have the major advantage though of having him around to cover a lot of the school holidays though - I work too and we have no family nearby to help out. I can't think how we woukld roganise although obviously loads of people do!

How do you people in non teaching jobs manage it? I am wondering what arrangements people make, whether you go for friends/ family or paid childcare? How easy is it to find eg places on good holiday schemes, how expensive is it and do your kids like being in childcare in the holidays?

Dp and I both have very flexible jobs so we can cover a lot of the holidays between us. Also dd1 (6) and dd2 (4) are going to holiday club at their school for a few days over the next fortnight - £12.50 a day each. They haven't been before but sometimes they've been back to their old nursery in the school holidays, which they loved. the school holiday club sounds great, they get swimming, cycling, scooting, videos, I think they'll probably like it.

I simply wouldn't dream of working whilst my children are on holiday. I love to spend every minute with them and so we'll be spending some family time together!

You obviously have a problem with control dear. Have you tried the naughty step?

My dd has three and a half weeks off ! I took last week off and she got her "chill-out" time in - had friends to play, did lots of craft etc at home - then this week she is my work playscheme 4 days (it's subsidised and only costs me £16 per day !)and on Friday I will work from home while she plays. Next week she will do playscheme 3 days and I will work from home on Thursday with her playing around me !

My work playscheme is an absolute godsend - she is really enjoying it - just doing craft all day really ! She also really likes watching what the bigger girls are up to (she is in awe at 5.5).

In the summer I will have MIL up for a week to help, and take a couple of weeks off myself - but other than that it's playscheme again !
