I was wondering about investing in a humidifier for my nephew's room because he sounds quite chesty? Are they effective? Do they help snuffly / chesty babies? Any advice is appreciated!!
Many thanks.

I have found that when 13 month-old DS has a dry hacking cough, 1 or 2 nights of humidifier have made a difference - alternatively - wet towels over an exposed radiator will do the same thing.
When he is snotty or chesty, I put a drop or two of saline solution in each nostril, tipping the head for a few seconds in the direction of the treated nostril and letting it run towaqrd the ear, clears up blockage making brething and feeding easier, and also slightly elevating the mattress so head is higher than feet.

We have one and it definitely helps ds2, who gets a lot of phlegm on his chest when he has a cold.

Thank you, I knew i'd get impartial advice from here! May try the towels on the radiator before investing in a humidifier machine!Manythanks. If you were to buy a machine, is there a particular one you would recommend for ease of use, noise, size etc?

It does help (a lot) BUT don't get a Bionaire, they are a hassle to clean and once the filter gets a bit mouldy (fair enough I forgot to wash it immediatly and two days later was well... black?) never could get a replacement, I rang even the Bionaire head offices and nobody could say for cetain where could I get one. SO... it went straight to the bin after 2 uses.

Got an Elta (german brand) from Ebay and was much better especially because it had a more advanced system that didn't need a fabric/paper filter. Still going strong after 3 years and...was cheaper than the Bionaire.

It made a big difference to my dd, she used to be really cheaty and is much better now.
I bought a great humidifier for my dd's room on ebay wasn't really expensive but it's a fab one, have a look around!
