The DWP have refused my claim for job seekers on account of my not paying enough class 1 NI contributions in 2004 to 2005.

I have no idea how much i did pay and how much is enough. I had worked solidly in the same job for 10 and a half years and yet they pick one period and apparently is not enough.

I dont know what im going to do. CTC arent paying me atm because of their f*ck up. Im getting child benefit and thats it. I dont know what im entitled to - or what i can do. I thought that at least the job seekers would cover our food bill for a couple of weeks but not now.

I know i can appeal but not on the basis of "its just not fair". It sucks being a working parent. It really does.

what about income support instead? Have they not advised what to claim for?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/04/2006 09:38

Id like to think this was an April Fools joke by the DWP, but they dont have a sense of humour do they?

No cc. Thats whats got my DP annoyed.

He does hold quite "strong" views on things but said this morning - which didnt help - "if you didnt speak very good English and had just walked into the country they would sit there and tell you what you could apply for, and if you didnt get that benefit, you could apply for this one, and if you didnt get that you could apply for that etc etc"

Do you have your payslips for that period? Can you got to the CAB and get some advice?

I really have no idea but I'm guessing this is your serious thread so am endeavouring to answer seriously.

charliecat · 01/04/2006 09:42

yep, I know, when dp was made redundant last year we got 30 quid for 4 of us for ...er 6 weeks I thought it was...and when he did get work but it coincided with the day he needed to sign on...but coz he was working now..sign off they put him at the back of the queue and he had to wait for ...hours...RAGING.
Anyway. I would get your hands on some income support forms.
No idea where to get them from though...maybe jobcentre again.

harpsichordcarrier · 01/04/2006 09:59

during that period were you working? or on MAt Leave?
is it not possible to contribute extra to make up the amounts - I know I have been invited to do this in the past.
I would definitely go to the CAB QV
Sad

Working. Albeit part time from oct 03. But still earning a good wage.

Had been on mat leave from mid march 03 to oct 03. Then worked part time the whole way up until end of march 05 and went on mat leave again.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/04/2006 12:16

dosn't it make you so angry..i worked whenever not studying..paind my taxes etc.

also lived with dp for 7 years..and whilst his income affects my eliginility for income support, they don't accept his n.i contributions for my claim for j.s.a /mat. allowance etc

what a crappy system

if anyone saw jonathen ross last night..he suggested him and alan sugar as heads of government..lol

babyonboard · 01/04/2006 12:23

vvvvqv...yr nicknmes too much of a mouthful lol
our c.a.b will arrange home visits for people in such circumstnces. ask your health visitor to support you nd arrange it!?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/04/2006 12:57

Good suggestion bob. My HV might entertain that since she has been supporting me through my PND.

Grrr. Its an utter shambles.

Just got through on the phone - after ringing and ringing and getting the engaged tone all morning.

They said that its assessed on if you worked in the tax year they have checked in my case 2004-2005.

I said "IF"????? Ive worked non stop apart from two patches of maternity leave for the last 10.5 YEARS!!!!!

Apparently, not all their records are complete is their explanation. So now i have to go in with my P60 for that year.

Its so ridiculous that they cant find out something simple like this. I then mentioned that they have refused my back claim - he said it didnt matter because you get 26 weeks worth of benefit in any given year so the claim can start from now for those 6 months.

Er..WTF!...im not planning on being unemployed for 6 months!!!!!

I am actually trying to find work.
