Oh wise mumsnetters, save ds2's trainers which I only bought a week ago.

Just on the way out the door to school this morning and ds2 who's potty training came to me having done an enormous wee in his clothes. Both trainers were full and socks dripping. So bundled ds1 in with neighbours kids and tried to clean up the carnage.

I only bought his little Nike trainers a week ago and they're gorgeous. They were only £9 because I don't pay a lot but if I had to replace them it would be £30. I've just bundled them in the washer and hoped for the best. But I've never had a sucessful pair of trainers once they've been washed.

Any tips on what to do when they come out of the washer? Do I pack them with newspaper? Do I put them on the radiator? Do I leave them to dry naturally? Will they shrink?

On my way out now to pick up sisters gorgeous little baby because she hasn't slept all night, so will check back in about half an hour.

Thank you in advance. I really want to save these.

Pack a sock with kitchen roll and put inside. Slow drying is best away from direct heat, but if desperate put trainers into a pillow case and tumble dry briefly on a COOL setting. Change stuffing whenever it gets too damp.

I've always tended to pack them with newspaper to try and hold the shape so they don't shrink and dry them slowly in the sun or near a radiator (but not directly on the radiator).

Have no scientific proof or anything -its just how I would do it.

Oh and for future reference, always stick them in a pillowcase when washing too - most damage is done by them bouncing off the drum.

Yes, I put them in a pillow case and there's other washing in to. So that should cushion them.

So if pack them with kitchen roll in a sock because i'm worried about newspaper print coming off. They're white on the inside. Then if I leave them in the conservatory to dry, would that be okay do you think?

i would just put them in the airing cupboard my trainers have always been ok there.

I use a sock to prevent marking and also to get the size right! I once overstuffed DS2's trainers and they ending up looking like plates strapped to his feet Smile

Conservatory/airing cupboard both great - somewhere warm but not direct heat.

I've stuff them with kitchen roll and they're on the line at the moment. I don't have an airing cupboard and the conservatory is already showing 31 degrees which might be a little bit to hot. It is for me anyway.
