Anyone else have three dogs?

I only ask because I already have a pointer bitch and a neutered American Beagle, and 2 days ago I rescued a fantastic and very sweet broken coated terrier whose owner 'doesn't want him'Angry. He has settled in really well here and I am trying to decide if we would be mad to keep him or not. We live in the countryside surrounded by woods and sheepfields, and no roads closeby. Does anyone else have three dogs? Would love to hear experiences!

My BIL and SIL have 3 dogs. No kids but still.

They had 2 to start with that SIL had, both rescue dogs and then they got what they thought/told was a Rotweiller pup. Turned out to be a Rott/jack russel/sausage dog! Grin

They all get on great and all know their ranking IYSWIM.

Sounds like a lovely dog. My main concern with three dogs would be whether I could physically handle them all out on a walk if they encountered a sheep chasing/hostile dog/dog phobic child situation. however it doesn't sound as though the dogs you have are too big/badly behaved.

I know someone with 7 Border Collies who she regularly walks together lol

As long as each dog knows its place then you should be fine. Loose walks again should be no problem as long as they all come when called [and they all know to leave sheep alone lol]. It IS possible to walk them together on leads as long as they all have what I call "walking manners" - they know not to pull mentally to get somewhere

HTH

Thanx everyone! The beagle is a beagle, so 'nuff said Grin. The pointer is whistle trained but young, so is 90% reliable, if dippy. This little dog has no idea what I mean if I call him, so comes back behind the other dogs ATM but I can see I need to train him and I'm not sure where you start with a 9 month old pup. He doesn't seem very interested in treats, for a start.

i have 3 dogs. luckily we live in the country and hardly see anyone when i do walk them, and if i do they are all behaved. i hardly ever use a lead on any of them.

At one point I had 5 dogs living in a 3bed quad! I must point out that I am a vet nurse who, at the time, was also living with 2 other vet nurses therefore between us we managed to bring home every waif and stray that came into the surgery Grin They were hard work but dogs tend to get themselves into a pecking order which mostly helps when it comes to feeding and fusses etc. However, I have found that when 3 or more dogs are together on a walk they can form a bit of a 'pack' which sometimes makes them more difficult to control and the site of them can frighten some people so like you say you would have to have eyes int eh back of your head when out walking to prevent any running off/chasing before it starts. Funnily though, walking 5 dogs on the lead was often easier than walking 2 as they walked together instead of trying to compete for the front.
