Suggestions for a good place to live???

My DP and I are thinking about moving over the next few years. We are starting to research possible places. This is what we are looking for:

Good state primary and secondary schools which are supported by local parents;

A sense of community - this is difficult to define, but I suppose what I mean is somewhere where people are happy to talk to one another in passing and where there are plenty of local activities, which don't involve going to church (we are non-Christians, so it is not appropriate).

A good hospital

I don't know whether this is a tall order. It certainly doesn't apply to where we live now, except for the odd street. Does anyone think that they live in a place which meets these criteria?

Thanks
the possibility of buying a 3 bedroomed house for less than 400k

I reackon Cambridge - except I miss the hills. Good state schools because all the leftie uni people who are very bright and supportive use them, good pubs, good shops, london 1hr away, great hospital, lots of green spaces, you can row (YEAH!!!), lots of activites for kids (because well off people with money support such things)..
downsides: Pesky students, foriegn students on bikes, car parking, houseprices (but you can get some really nice houses for 400 but I guess it depends on what you want. A house round the courner from my school is on the market for 2.5 million), grumpy people on houseboats and is so flat and no sea (I dream of a cottage next to the sea)

But basically Cambridge is a really nice place to shop (there is a whole other tread on it) and is surronded by nice villages (and traffic jams - get a bike!!!)
