kind of following on from the restaurant thread!

My mum works in our local library and they have a baby jiggle and rhyme time on a friday morning.

Due to persistent requests they got a changing mat so that babies could be changed if necessary and people have now started LEAVING their dirty nappies beside it! for library staff to remove and bin....

I was Shock when I heard it

There's somebody walking his/her dog on our street who, pick ups the dog's poo in fragile nappy bags and instead of taking them back home she just leaves them on the kerb where they get stuck as stickers, or on the street where they lay around sometimes for days, you can see 3 or 4 together at some ocassions Angry.

I confess that I have felt the urge to pick the bags up and throw them at the dog walker from my window.-no idea who she is, or at what time she walks the dog-

Am I pre menstrual or what???

It would be easier if she just left them laying around, much easier to pick up than when they are pressed against the pavement! yuK!!!

My local library provide a mat as well, but have put up a polite notice asking people to take dirty nappies home.

starlover · 30/03/2006 19:13

why? why can't they take them with them??

sorry, but I think it's disgusting

well i think thatr they should supply a bin tbh.
if they are doing stuff for children then there will be nappies, that makes sense.
so they should be realistic about the nappies and have a disposal unit/bin/whatever...

my library really pisses me off. they have a lovely kids bit and do fantastic storytime/ toy library etc.
and the loo is up 2 flights of stairs, very hard stairs. the loo has a dirty tiled floor and no changing facilities whatsoever...
what the hell are we supposed to do??
i pay my taxes etc and i don't really see it is too expensive to put in a table and a bin ffs!!!
gwetting onto a seriously parp[ subject for me Sad
starbucks and costas are the only places to change a nappy when we are out and about tbh
even the kids' cafe in the park has no facilities. it has a kiddy toilet which is a great idea, but nowhere to change a nappy Sad

starlover · 30/03/2006 19:18

so you'd leave your nappies there for someone else to clear up?

nice!

and who would provide the bin? and pay for the waste people to come and empty it?

sorry... they're running a service for FREE! i don't think it's too much to expect people to take their bloody rubbish away!

OP posts:
oops · 30/03/2006 19:22

no, if there was no bin i'd be annoyed but i'd take them with me
but i wouuld ask the staff politely if they could bring it up at the next staff meeting if a bin could be supplied
or ask if there was such a thing as a users meeting so we could bring the point up then Smile
which is exactly wghat i did...
i don't expect the staff to clear up after me, but i do hope that a facility that isd paid for from my council tax provides users with a suitable level of service Grin

oops · 30/03/2006 19:25

not trying to start a fight sl! but who pays for the library?
maybe i am wrong to expect a libraRY that does something daily for babies amnd toddler to have no useful safe hygenic way of changiong them.
i don't feel niave abolut it... just annoyed tbh, but not at the staff who provide such a lovely atmolsphere, more at the planners/management of the library

starlover · 30/03/2006 19:26

yeah and while they're at it maybe they should build a baby changing room too eh?

OP posts:
oops · 30/03/2006 19:27

off now for the eve, will check in later, Grin

oops · 30/03/2006 19:27

errrr, why not?

starlover · 30/03/2006 19:28

are you serious?

OP posts:
oops · 30/03/2006 19:29

or maybe there should be no toilets at all there, why let adults go to the loo but not babies??

anyway, diue somewher in 2 mins so am not duking out but have stuff to do, bye Smile

TheBlonde · 30/03/2006 19:30

I think the library should provide a bin

I went to a baby class at a church the other week. This church has lots of different baby classes going on and in the babychange big signs telling you to take your dirty nappies with you
Bloody cheek!

oops · 30/03/2006 19:32

yes i am starlover.. not sure if that renders me crazy !
but if they want kids to go to libraries and if i pay for them togetherwitrh the other residents, why not provide a place to change then
ds1 gets so upset when he has pooed, nastry to have to bundle him into a pushchair and trake him to starbucks and then come back Sad

starlover · 30/03/2006 19:32

so just a nice bin in the middle of the junior library? that'd be nice!

I think the problem is that it's a LIBRARY not a creche.
i don;t know why they do the bloody thing at all to be honest.... no-one can use the junior library at all while it's going on.
it's just a free playgroup for people who never use the library otherwise

tassis · 30/03/2006 19:33

I've been to various toddler things (eg in a church where the wheelie bin is stored indoors in a cupboard) where there are notices asking parents to take their nappies home.

If they're going to have a mat, perhaps they could have a sign saying where it'd be appropriate to dispose of nappy (ie nearest outside bin or take it home!).

SaintGeorge · 30/03/2006 19:34

It would be surprisingly expensive for public places such as libraries to provide proper facilities though.

They can't just throw nappies in the rubbish like in a private dwelling, they would have to pay for specific disposal.
