..........I thought i'd make some bread. Had it proving, oven on to warm up, oven has died.

Will the bread (proved, but raw) keep till later to put in neighbours oven?

Also, can someone come round and be here when i tell DH please??!! He's gonna flip!!!!

It should be fine Beth. Sorry to hear about your dead oven!

anorak · 29/03/2006 13:01

You can keep the bread till later if you slow down the proving process by refrigerating it.

If you've fully proved it already it will probably collapse if you don't bake it.

spacedonkey · 29/03/2006 13:02

oh will it?

Once I made hot cross buns and forgot about them - they proved all day and came out lovely and light

anorak · 29/03/2006 13:02

If you have to I would knock it back (ie, punch it a bit to get the air out) wrap it in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge.

starlover · 29/03/2006 13:02

yes agree about putting it in the fridge.
bread can over-prove which gives it a funny taste as well

BethAndHerBrood · 29/03/2006 13:04

Bread now in fridge. Thanks. Smile

So, who's coming round??

Why will your DH flip about an oven ??

Was it your fault, did you take a hammer to it ?

BethAndHerBrood · 29/03/2006 13:08

the oven has been a bit "tempramental" for a while, but as we have the house on the market DH (cheapskate) didn't want to buy another. I might has well have put the hammer through it, I'll get the blame!!!

I'll just blame you lot, "Well, mumsnet said it was cheaper to make your own bread........."

maybe its like the time i rang dp to tell him our washing machine had broken then i said oh no and the mircowave and the kettle arent working either this is gonna cost us a fortune (and it was me having a very blonde moment - the fuse had flicked doh!!) i really hope that is it all it for your sake. btw i would be seriously worried about living with a bloke who flips at you for something that is so clearly not your fault Smile perhaps some anger management would help........(sorry if im over stepping the mark)

LoveMyGirls · 29/03/2006 16:22

no offence meant to blondes either Grin
