Wouldn't have thought so no.

essemvee · 28/03/2006 17:24

How old? If she's more than 3 I should just wait for it to come out, unless there's any discomfort :)

nutcracker · 28/03/2006 17:25

Hmm dunno about the sharp bit though

buffythenappyslayer · 28/03/2006 17:26

might be best to ring nhs direct up for advice.chances are she'll pass it without any probs.ds1 once swallowed a penny!he had xray, and had to go through nappies with a fork!!yuk!!!it came out a couple of days later without any probs.hope shes ok!

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 17:27

DS has done the penny trick before and that needed an x-ray but he had no problems

don't wanna call NHS direct .. they'll just tell me to go

If she seems fine in herself & isn't coughing etc, then I would have thought she will be fine.
My DS1 swallowed a magnetix ball & I panicked & phoned NHS direct. He was gagging at first, but then seemed fine & they advised me to wait for it to pass through!

Blu · 28/03/2006 17:31

I think I'd call NHS Direct if it was something sharp. Or call your gp surgery and talk to a doctor?

essemvee · 28/03/2006 17:32

I'd be a tad concerned about the sharp edge in so young a child. Echo the advice about NHS direct - if they advise you to go to the Dr / A&E then perhaps it's good advice...

buffythenappyslayer · 28/03/2006 17:33

if its sharp it could do damage on the way out.dont know if the stomach acids will break it down or not.

nutcracker · 28/03/2006 17:33

It's the sharp edge that would bother me.

blueteddy · 28/03/2006 17:35

Yes, I would say it is always best to get it checked out. Phone NHS direct & see what they suggest.

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 17:39

have called them

you sensible people

always feel like I'm over-reacting when I speak to them tbh

OP posts:
essemvee · 28/03/2006 17:41

Don't we all... I'm sure they are used to it!! :)

The whole point of them is so we can overreact with them and not at the GP / A&E... so don't feel bad about using them.

If it's not being nosey... what did they say?

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 17:42

getting a nurse to call me back

OP posts:
Blu · 28/03/2006 17:54

Will add to the nutritional content of the pancake and maple syrup, though!

buffythenappyslayer · 28/03/2006 18:09

has the nurse rang you back yet?

Twiglett · 28/03/2006 18:11

nope still waiting .. DD totally fine in a little tinker sort of way

OP posts:
Twiglett · 28/03/2006 21:05

a call operator phoned about 15 mins ago so I cancelled it ... DD went to bed at 7 .. I'm sure it will break down in stomach acid

dinny · 28/03/2006 21:08

Twiglett, ds bit off and swallowed half a plastic spoon a while ago and i took him to a&e as it was a really sharp edge. the dr just checked his throat and said the only probs would have been choking as he swallowed it. I wouldn't worry, it'll be well on the way down by now.

popsycalindisguise · 28/03/2006 21:08

a friedns one year old swallowed a whole plum stone and was fine....

keep an eye on her though

blueteddy · 28/03/2006 21:15

Can't believe the nurse took so long to get back to you!
I am sure your DD will be fine though.
