How to wash baby's hands?!!

How do wash your baby's hands? I actually wash our ds's hand under the tap and with normal soap, but dp thinks it's ok just to use a wet wipe before and after eating. He says I worry to much about that sort of thing - i.e., hygiene.

Am I right or is he?

oh god - wet wipes all the way and a bath at night!

alexsmum · 27/03/2006 13:09

i would use a flannel rinsed out in warm water.
she hasn't been handling raw meat or anything!!!

Twiglett · 27/03/2006 13:09

either works .. there's no right or wrong .

I wouldn't actually use soap on a baby's skin .. just water is fine

jmum6 · 27/03/2006 13:17

He gets the bath each night anyway - so I shouldn't be using soap on his hands then? Blush

Oh no, dp was right about something. Bugger.

a damp flannel would be even better.no chemicals at all and reusable so less harmful to the environment!

BettySpaghetti · 27/03/2006 16:00

wet flannel here too (reusable) -don't like wet wipes except for nappy changes or on the move

jmum6 · 27/03/2006 16:06

Understand the enviromental reasons and the non chemical reasons for using a flannel but aren't wet wipes more hygenic? Won't loads of germs breed in the flannel - even if you wash daily?

Sorry - am paranoid about things like this!

I think if flannels are washed daily it's absolutely fine.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/03/2006 16:15

Nah, he'll be fine. Flannel, wet wipe etc all good. He'll be crawling soon and putting all sorts in his mouth (if he isnt already) ....hubby is right.

LoveMyGirls · 27/03/2006 16:56

flannel will be fine, if you're paranoid just put it in a jug of boiling water after every use - to kill the germs.
