anyone interested in a 'green' thread

I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in a 'green' thread - I am quite new here so probably have no right etc etc but I have noticed a few times that there are quite a few eco-unfriendly ideas kicking about mumsnet and wondered if there were any likeminded souls - I'm not a woolly hippy by any means but I do like my home to be as chemical-free as possible and I don't like to throw things away if I can think of something better to do with them - would be nice to share ideas - anyone feel the same?

Of course you have a right to start a thread! Sounds like a good one. We use ecover washing powder and conditioner, and won't be replacing the other cleaning stuff when we run out- using natural alternatives. I use recycled card for my crafts (\linkwww.eco-craft.co.uk/\here} and ds3 has a green baby organic fleece for his buggy. We used to use reusables for the boys, we don't atm but only because of ds1's sn which we think buys us exemption from additional stress.

I use Ecover toilet cleaner and it works fine (smells weird though I agree!).

We have hard water, so once a week I pour a cup of vinegar into the bowl and leave it overnight - give it a scrub with the toilet brush in the morning and any limescale comes away easily.

In fact any surfaces that get limescale build-up, just use white vinegar and it shines up much better than any commercial cleaning product I've ever used.

Great thread btw! Smile

Coke cleans toilets...just leave to soak over night and they will be sparkly clean (just like your guts?)

I've always been a bit confused when people say "white" vinegar. Is that distilled vinegar?

lahdeedah · 28/03/2006 12:40

yes I just buy Sarsons distilled vinegar - I think it just means not brown!!

SaintGeorge · 28/03/2006 12:44

Simply means the clear stuff rather than malt (brown) vinegar or any of the flavoured varieties.
