I am after some speakers for my Ipod.

I was just browsing sites but then realised that maybe I can use the kit I already have.

I have a Bose Wave CD/Radio - is there any way of hooking an ipod up to that?

Or alternatively we have surround sound with the TV.

I just want to hear my tunes on ipod out loud in house and would rather use what I have already if possible!

Any help much appreciated

Bose is quite knew isn't it? If you bought it recently i would imagine you can.

Try plugging it in to every socket available - thats what i'd do Grin.

And do the same with your tv - try it in the audio point see if it works.

With which cable though?

Did it not come with one? Do you listen to it in your car? Dp's came with one that he plugs from ipod to car radio, and that same leads plugs to speakers in the house.

tamaman · 25/03/2006 23:05

I think the Bose speakers are special iPod ones as opposed to the CD ones, but I could be wrong.

Hattie05 · 25/03/2006 23:06

Yeah but don't all recently manufactured sound sytems have facility to take ipod?

tamaman · 25/03/2006 23:07

Dunno :)

There is a specific bose product that is an ipod sound dock but want something to just stick into the existing stereo.

It didnt come with a cable. I use the ipod in the car via a cassette thingy that I bought.

Sorry, missed this.

Looking at the Bose page on their Wave systems, they say that they all have an Auxillary input. You should be able to use that.

It will be on the back of the unit, probably as two round connections, about 1cm across, raised out of the plastic, with a hole in the middle of each. Possibly gold coloured, possibly white a coloured plastic ring at their base, almost certainly labelled 'Aux' or 'Aux In'. They are called 'RCA' or 'phono' sockets, and you can buy a stereo 3.5mm jack to Phono cable and connect it to your ipod / dock to hear your tunes loud as you like.

HTH

Get the cable from Dixons / anywhere. You don't need a flash / thick one, just a decent cheapo one will be fine. This is how I listen to my iPod too... no probs.

hub2dee · 28/03/2006 08:06

Oh, and re "surround sound on the TV" - if the TV has a spare audio input (it will be RCA / phono sockets again), or if it is connected to a separate amplifier with a spare input, you can use either of those too. You will need to point to this input with your remote controller.

Hi hub2dee thanks for the advice!

I got a £1.97 cable from Tesco and it works great!! Listening to ipod through bose in the kitchen is great! It has saved a fortune too, very nearly bought something much more expensive for same job.

You probably will be OK - I had the sad face on my ipod earlier in the week. Have a look \link{http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/index.html\here} for IPOD support.

I did a \link{http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705\reset} and it was fine.

If you have no luck with the various links, some folk are just dropping them. \link{http://askpang.typepad.com/relevant_history/2004/11/meeting_the_sad.html\Link}

anyone?? please dont say my little pink baby is dead

OP posts:
hub2dee · 28/03/2006 15:38

You can try repeatedly resetting, and if that doesn't work I think you're a bit buggered.

I presume you're outside the one year warranty ?

Many posters in one of my links went from sad iPod to working system by jolting their iPod back to life. As a last resort you could try that, but you obviously risk breaking it altogether. A small drop from three inches is what I'd try, but you might damage it further. But it sounds like you've got nothing to lose.

freshstart · 28/03/2006 15:40

I bought it in July last year (was a wedding present from hubby to me)

Should it still be in warranty? Not sure if i have receipt but think I do have the box

OP posts:
hub2dee · 28/03/2006 16:15

deffo contact apple then. They send out a special envelope so you can return it.

Kelly1978 · 28/03/2006 16:16

Have you tried updating it? It sounds buggered to me, but it might help jolt it back agsin - it fixed mine last week.

OP posts:
pecka · 05/08/2006 12:27

Would you F**ing believe it.

The ipod mini that replaced my last one has broken. ARGH

When you get a replacement product under warranty should it come with its own warranty or still under original?

If the original its now out of warranty but its only a couple of months old
