VW Camper Vans

Hi, My DH has just spent thousands (really) doing up his split screen camper van and I really can't see what all the fuss is about. We have to go to meetings with other WV enthusiasts, and DH spends hours (when I am not on) on the internet talking to other people about their vans and 'bugs' and what they are going to do about them and with them. So I just wanted to know do you love them or hate them, or just totally indifferent to them (like me - although I am leaning to the hate side) Sorry, I got fed with talking about children and food. Have you any advice for my Dh and do you go to any Shows? :o

Thanks Mumball

hub - I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. And I don't want to get dh started so am not going to ask. Grin

LOL. He will be amazed that a mumsnetter knows about Californian bug detailing... typical bloke talk.

mumball · 25/03/2006 22:25

er whats an airstream?

well, he's quite vague about the mechanics of it. He mumbles quite a bit because he doesn't know the details. All the fancy work was done before he got it. He really just likes tarting up the bits people see (like a big girl).
I've given up my french name btw.

Love bugs and camper vans, never had either though Sad. The village I grew up in used to host a VW meet every year at its motor museum and I had been, pre-driving licence, with a friend. It was a great day out. Smile

Personaly I would love one and think I could get into all of that. However, DH doesn't want to know. Shall we swap DH's?! Grin

BTW I drove around Australia in our VW campervan. Whenever, we stopped and there was another VW camper owners would meet and discuss their partiuclar conversion.......

mumball · 25/03/2006 23:26

See Campervans are boring. This thread has gone off the boil! Who wants to stay in a van anyway, all cramped, no electricity to plug hairdryer, in going out side pee. Why can't we just stay in a nice hotel or guest house where you don't have to make your own dinner or cup of tea, which reminds me DH keep saying we could stop for tea in a layby - WHY? Can't we stop for tea in a nice restaurant or hotel? We never allowed to stop when we go to Cornwall by Car. But I suppose stopping in the van will be inevitable as it will probably break down and be stuck in a layby somewhere.:o

This is exactly what my DH says about campervanning! Wink

i miss my campervan......had to sell it so we could buy windows for our house (damn conservation area).
had a bright yellow early bay.....was lovely for doing festivals in. my uncle lives in Australia and has/had a beautiful split screen.
i'm going to go and reminisce now about my lovely bus Sad

cupcakes · 26/03/2006 19:53
  1. cheaper than a guest house
  2. if you don't like where you are it is easy to move on
  3. you are at one with the countryside Grin
mumball · 27/03/2006 18:05

Erm yes usually broken down in the countryside. Still I am going to Volksworld show on saturday with the old man, our van will not be ready as Dave the headliner is still working on it. But we now have a Samba trim, and hopefully it will have stopped smelling by now, so I suppose I shall get used to it - you get used to anything in time!
