Dd's outrageous Mother's Day card for Granny

So this independent writing lark is all very well, but I've just deciphered what dd (not quite 5) has written in the card she made for Granny:

Dear Granny I hope you are you like Mother's Day so much you don't want to die soon but it's all right anyway that's good love from X and Y

Shock Shock Shock

purpleturtle, will Granny see the funny side?

purpleturtle · 25/03/2006 13:59

Not sure. Could hope she can't decipher it fully. Or that she assumes she's read it wrong. Or maybe we'll have to start again with closer supervision. I could stick a piece of paper in the card perhaps!

im impressed with your dds writing skills .If it were my mum i would give it as she would think its funny (i do ! ).if you think she might be offended perhaps your dd could write another message to stick in the card ? I think the message is lovely Grin

HappyMumof2 · 25/03/2006 16:42

Shock Shock Shock

purpleturtle · 25/03/2006 16:50

If it were my mum I would send it. However, my MIL is likely to attempt to psycho-analyse dd and express concern that she's worried about death.

Dd doesn't seem especially worried about death, just quite pleased with herself!

My mum would laugh! I think my MIL would too!

NotQuiteCockney · 25/03/2006 16:55

This is the kind of thing my DS1 would say, particularly as we've had deaths in the family recently.

I think it depends what your DM/MIL would think about it ... at least the message is essentially positive.

purpleturtle · 25/03/2006 16:57

We haven't had any deaths in the family at all. I have no idea where it came from. And I do find it funny rather than alarming. Just not sure about the MIL.

If it were my mum, then I'd send it, as she and my DD share the same slightly warped sense of humour Grin. If it were MIL, then definitely not!

Flossam · 25/03/2006 17:23

i'd sent it and ring her and make a joke of it! Grin

SorenDeLorensen · 25/03/2006 17:42

My Mum would laugh her head off to get a card like that - but only you know how your MIL might take it. Got any glitter? I'd advise some judicious glitter splodging over the words die and soon Grin

PandaG · 25/03/2006 18:12

Very funny, think you have to send it. Surely you can interpret it as DD wants Granny to stick around for as long as possible, and just expressed it in an original way ?!! Grin

SoupDragon · 25/03/2006 18:15

Snort!

Is it definitely die and is that actually what she means?

purpleturtle · 25/03/2006 18:27

Yes! It is definitely 'die' and she seems fairly sure it's the word she wanted! Shock

Well, dd is insisting on putting it in an envelope. Think we'll have to send it and hope for the best!

Of course, in my mum's all she's written is 'Happy Mother's day'!

OP posts:
hovely · 25/03/2006 21:42

maybe too late now, but can't you just switch envelopes so your mum gets the slightly dodgy one?

Oh God, who wouldn't find that funny? Send it!Grin

RachD · 25/03/2006 23:11

Love it.
My mum would love it.
Its from the heart -its honest - its children, for you - what more can you say !

Eve2005 · 25/03/2006 23:20

PMSL purpleturtle, would definitely send it, wouldn't really care whether MIL got the funny side or not as the sentiment is sweet and you know your dd isn't morbid so who cares!

purpleturtle · 27/03/2006 11:47

Yep. It's going in the post today now that I've finally remembered to buy stamps. (And if I can be bothered to brave the rain, again)

My DS insisted on picking his own card for my Mum, the first one said Happy Mothers Day........Dear Auntie. Mind you the kitten on the front was cute.

Managed to steer him away from that and he settled on.....................Happy Birthday, the card had loads of dolly mixtures on it, and this time he was not changing his mind for anyone. Grin
