We've signed up for a session should be £125 special offer £25. We get an hours photo session 1 free print and a viewing session for that.

It looks really good but expensive, has anyone used them and how much do the photos cost?

Yes agree v. expensive but you get some lovely shots. They try to offer something a little different but tbh the photography market is much more competitive now so I think what they offer isn't unique anymore. They are a franchise I believe and the one near us have never put the pressure on to buy. We've had it done twice but tbh will probably look elsewhere for any future stuff as the cost is high.

sarahhal · 25/03/2006 13:25

Cuffy - we ended up losing cash with Venture as we had to cancel our session as DS was ill and lost the "booking fee"

WideWebWitch · 25/03/2006 13:26

OK, have done, it's in member profiles. See what I mean?

zippipetitspieds · 25/03/2006 13:27

I think they have lost their edge because they are all very similar so no longer something different..

it's a bit photo by numbers

I'd rather go to a blowy beach for the weekend and spend the time taking photos and having fun..come back and pick a couple of the loads we'd taken to blow up for ourselves

Seems insane to spend £100s on a couple of photos (kids photos OK, each to their own but those naff casual family shots ...cringe)when you can buy a quality digital camera and a professional level designated photo printer for less than £500.

madeleines · 25/03/2006 17:13

Don't like venture very much. They're all so bleached out. And some of the arty shots are all very well but you can't see what the sitter looks like. I suppose they're preferable to the regular portrait sittings but I think they're rather naff.

Sorry.

madeleines · 25/03/2006 17:16

and I don't care what anyone says about digital photography. If you want a decent photograph with detail you have to use film.

cheltenhamgal · 25/03/2006 17:34

The photo's are fantastic but they really do go for the hard sell, no matter how many times I said no, I only want the £25 offer they still kept saying things like "oh but look she looks stunning !" yes I know she is my dd.

Spagblog · 25/03/2006 17:35

We just got a venture portrait freebie. Wouldn't have paid for it though.
Nice pic, but give me a large white space and lots of lighting and I could do the same thing.

CarolineLaLune · 25/03/2006 17:49

a friend of mine did it and the photos look fabby. They are rather well-off though, so didn't seem that fussed about the cost Shock.

Agree about the photo-by-numbers though - all babies look the same in a venture pic. Think it might be more worth doing with older kids/grown-ups.

koolkat · 25/03/2006 18:25

We did some for DS - 5 months at the time. I have the most gorgeous photogenic son - so says everyone Smile but in the Venture pics. he looked washed out and horrid. I take better pics. with my digital.

I also found the staff incredibly stuck up pretentious, quote: "I am an artist, not a photographer". The guy who took the pics actually said that Shock

Sorry, just my experience. I would agree they are better with older kids/adults, but are they worth the money ? They are enormously expensive.

Went to a party recently where they had a similar offer, voucher for a session and photo, itself worth £125 allegedly, for £35. But the photo wasn't that big - desk top size and basically framed and you had only 2 motnsh to sue the offer. All photos you choose are mounted and framed by them and a 3 photo spread was over £700. The hostess had had a session and the results were good and spontaneous. Think I was the only one at the party not to pay up Blush. Have heard you get hard sell to buy the additional shots but both families I know who have done it have said not.

cod · 27/03/2006 09:25

i heard fo that too liz
my sister had it done it he chichester area

edam · 27/03/2006 09:43

Madelaines, the gardening magazines agree with you - they still use film because they just can't get the sharp detail you need to photograph plants with digital.

cod · 27/03/2006 09:44

wotcha cheesy

wizbang · 27/03/2006 10:33

Hi the family I nanny for had thiers done and went to view and were told they had to decide straight away otherwise price goes up loads its hard seeing your little darlings in loads of poses and not being able to have them all I had my dd and ds done with a competition in the family grapevine lady was lovely came to my house and I had a few pics off her and there were not over expensive venture are a bit pretentious photos good luck

tinkerbellchelle · 27/03/2006 10:44

We went and had the photos done. We had our free one and also spent nr £1k however we were not once forced or made to feel we HAD to buy anymore. They were really polite and friendly and more than happy if we just had the free one :)
We're really pleased with the results, but I do have to say that I know of some people who spent loads and not happy with the result for us however it was a great experience :)

thomp · 27/03/2006 10:51

Hi venture is sooo expensive. we use a nice lady who comes to our house and we get all photos postcard size. she charges £90 and we can get bigger ones done if we want to.

sunandmoon · 27/03/2006 11:03

Hi, friends of ours used Venture... Very expensive and didn't think the photos were that special (only good to show your friends how much it costs you!!!)and Venture make sure that you don't only take back 1 or 2 pictures but the all albumShock. An other friend bought 3 of the best smallest pictures from them, then took a photo of the photo and sent them to be enlarged by a cheaper photographer and for very cheap had 3 wonderful large pictures...
