Has anyone seen it?
I think it is vile, and want to complain about it...particularly given that it is very close to my lo's school.

(it's for the film 'Hostel' (18) and shows a person bound up and very bloody.. basically glorifying torture by the look of it)

Who do I complain to?

unicorn, you go girl!! stick to your guns.

unicorn · 24/03/2006 19:05

the police want to wait and see if the council can take action... the ASA (who have had a few more complaints about this ad) will put it before their council next week... and then if complaint upheld there will be further investigations....blah blah blah..

Of course the ad has served its purpose, and achieved exactly what it set out to do.

Indeed Caligula,it is very cynical.

It's important in society that people set out to shock and play with the natural boundaries that have been set upon us.

I can understand an outrage at the poster if it upsets a young child, they should stick to advertisinbg in adult magazines.

I find nothing wrong with feeding into imagination and pushing it to the limits. That's purely what it is, imagination.

Children though shouldn't be subjected to it, i totally agree with that, but if you are a well balanced adult who knows the difference between film and reality then the film probably does itself justice.

unicorn · 24/03/2006 19:24

My complaint isn't about your choice to watch this movie - I don't really care what adults are watching tbqh.
I do care that this completely offensive billboard is on full display to children as well as adults - and we have no say in the matter.

It is totally inappropriate.

i must be quite numb in that case as i didn't look at it twice, i just thought, ahhh a new film for all the students to watch

unicorn · 24/03/2006 19:37

I think I was stuck at traffic lights with both my lo's in the back of the car with nothing to do but look out the window, at said billboard.

Most advertising is pretty boring - but a bound and bloody man - well it wil get you attention won't it?

Dd was interested in the words Sick and Disgusting and wanted to know more...
Somehow I don't think 6 year olds are their ideal market.

Can you find out who owns the hoarding and speak to them? Many years ago I was really offended by a PDSA ad showing a kennel with the words "we have the solution to the homeless problem". It was on a bus shelter in an area of Brighton well known for being a daily hangout for homeless people. ASA were very unhelpful saying as noone else had complained it was unlikely to cause widespread offence. But Adshell were very good and took it down just a couple of days after my complaint to them.
