Washing Machine advice

My washing machine is on its last legs, and we are going to buy a new one. We have only had our current one (a Hotpoint Aquarius) 3 years, so I am a bit miffed that it's knackered out already Angry. So, before getting a new one I thought I would ask if any of you thought yours was the bees knees, or a load of rubbish!! My main priority is a not too long wash cycle and most importantly one that is nice and quiet!! Thanks

I've got a zanussi aqua cycle 1500 with a 5kg drum.. its got a quick wash and daily wash button which makes it quicker that a normal wash...
Yeah.. I'm happy with it.. Grin

How long have you had it may I ask? Is it lasting well?

is it definitely knackered?

we have had one of those for around 6 years (although it has had a few probs)

Twiglett · 23/03/2006 17:30

Zanussi XC6 here .. been great for about 3 years .. think its got a 7kg drum iirc

replaced a hoover washer/dryer which lasted for 6 years

LIZS · 23/03/2006 17:31

Zanussi Jetsystem here - 15+ years old !!

rummum · 23/03/2006 17:31

I've had it about 6 months...
I wanted a large drum
fast spin
filter
quick wash....

I got it from currys/comet.. can't remember which.. it was in their sale, they delivered it, plumbed it in and took the old one away...

Bomper · 23/03/2006 17:36

Foxinsocks - well we have had numerous problems with it in the past, and now it doesn't always spin off, and when it does it sound like a 747 taking off (I kid you not, it's awful!!), unless you have it on the 40 degree wash, it sort of overflows and all soapy water oozes out of it!! I am sick to the back teeth of it now and just want rid!!

yes we had that problem (noisy spin)

I found out that a pair of ds's football shorts had got stuck between the drum (the metal bit with holes in) and the sort of frame of the washing machine. I stuck my hand between that rubber seal and the drum and found a thread and pulled and a whole pair of shorts appeared.

The water seeping out (and I am shuddering at telling you this) - ours did that on one of dh's many overseas trips. I was standing in the kitchen watching the water coming out shrieking (with kids in bed) - there was a blockage in the water outlet pipe at the back. I had to unplumb the pipe and (do not read further if squeamish) suck the blockage out the tube (because I couldn't get it off the machine and I was desperate).

So yes, prob easier to replace Grin but if you are short of money, those problems may be fixable.

OMG - you're brave!!! Grin I would have probably been crying by then!! It probably doesn't help matters that my 2 year old is quite fond of putting all sorts of things in there, twice now I have shoved a load of washing in without checking and there has been one of her books in there, and when I emptied the machine they had disintergrated and my clothes were covered in grey pulp!!

apparently some machines have a sort of vent/filter thing where you can clean out all the stuff that gets stuck (think it's a good idea to look for one with something like this!). I only wish the hotpoint had this as I'm sure it's what's killing ours (and no doubt yours aswell!).

Piffle · 23/03/2006 17:54

we got a miele
love it
Comet are devil spawn do not repeat do not ever buy from them Grin

Bomper · 23/03/2006 17:55

A-ha, good point, I shall put that on my list of must-haves!! Ta.

Why are they the devils spawn? I am intrigued Smile

We've got a Miele. Expensive but worth it, particularly after years of Hotpoints and Credas that went wrong very quickly (our last cheapie was held together by elastic bands at the end!).

I have just had a trauma with VOMIT as we call them Piffle ...over a broken dishwasher which they refused to exchange though 14 days old....I ended up SCREAMING down the phone about my 5 kids and broken dishwasher being dumped dripping in the middle of their shop ( this is after a month of them telling me its not their problem) and eventually they exchanged it for a better model!

Sorry to hijack but COMET ARE INDEED FROM THE BOLLOCKS OF LUCIFER! Wink

Ahhhhhhhhhh feel better!

LIZS · 23/03/2006 18:24

I've not forgiven Comet for cockups 15 years ago !!!

NASWM · 23/03/2006 18:31

I just had to read this one, seeing as I have been moaning about my WM on and off for ages!

I wouldnt recommend mine, but I WILL recommend getting a service contract on whatever one you buy. I have had to call out someone 9 times in it's 2.5 yr lifetime. It has had a new pump, condensor, computer (?), value + a load of bits I cant remember. SO glad I paid for the service contract.
