I am selling some stuff at a tabletop sale on saturday...little newborn vests, sleepsuits, tee shirts, trousers, various toys and bits and bobs.

How much do you think I should charge for the vests and sleepsuits.
Some of them are in perfect condition, some a little more scruffy....30pence-70pence? for vests?
70p-£1 for sleepsuit.

or is this too much?
i live in a posh area and some of the stuff is gap/petit bateau, some is primark.

gis a clue Smile

Could you package them as 2 or 3 vests and sell for a £1?

2 sleepsuits £1.50

Trouser and t-shirt to match - £2?

Only guessing mind Smile.

Are you going to be present for the sale? Or are you handing the stuff over?

I'd charge more for the branded stuff, less for the cheapo stuff, obviously. Your price range sounds reasonable to me. Packaging stuff up together is good, too.

oops · 22/03/2006 22:29

that sounds like a good idea.
i have a big big pile of ironing to do, i want them to look nice,
but i never do ironing...Sad

I tell you what i've seen at boot fairs which always make things seem more attractive to buy, is clothes in little cellophane covers - like covers we get from dry cleaners.

Sorry don't have a clue where you get them from, but i always think it makes things seem more appealing. Bit of psychology really - cos the clothes could be manky underneath - buy shiny packaging make me happier to buy! Grin not that i do, but ykwim! Grin

Anyway, i shall shut up now - happy ironing!

oops · 22/03/2006 22:38

that sounds good...i am trying to weed out the ones with pooey stains so don't mind wrapping the stuff.
do you think it might make people think there is something to hide tho?

afraid of the ironing, the not done pile is about to engulf me!

I run and sell at NCT tabletop sales.

On average

Pack of 3 bodysuits 20p-50p
Pack of 3 sleepsuits £1
Asda type outfit £1-£3
Gap type outfit £2-£5

Newborn baby clothes do not sell very well at all. Older stuff is much more popular, especially if in good condition.

Hattie05 · 22/03/2006 22:42

Lol i'm glad to hear you won't try and sell the ones with pooey stains Grin.

Answer to your question - no the bags are clear so you can't hide anything, people will be able to pick up and have a good luc won't they.

It may be too pricey or take too much time to wrap them - i just always think stalls that do it stand out and look like the person has put some care into what they are doing, so hopefully the clothes have been cared for just as much!

But then dp always says i'm an advertisers dream soo.....

oops · 22/03/2006 22:51

do you think the newborn not selling so well is because everyone gets it new?
then they run out of money and have to get the next lot second hand?

so you reckon 3 sleepsuits for £1?

OP posts:
Hattie05 · 22/03/2006 23:11

Well my dd didn't fit in newborn stuff and neither did many children i know.

And also - with a newborn, being so precious i think people are less inclined to want them in second hand clothes.

Give it six months or so once they've eaten mud and worms (ok not quite) then you don't care so much!

oops · 22/03/2006 23:32

thanks anyway, good night, may bump this tomorrw, but appreciate your input

So many people get tons of newborn stuff as presents etc before the birth. Also unless they have found out the sex in advance people wait until they know what they have had.

Newborn clothes are so hardly worn in general there is a glut of them so buyers can be more choosy also.

What did sell at the one I did last year was newborn little boys outfits to people who knew what they were having. Bodysuits and sleepsuits are so cheap anyway that people mostly tend to buy them new.
