Would you copy a story tape from the library?

Ds and dd love listening to story tapes at bedtime. The have a favourite which we get from the library - we keep it for months before returning it, and then take it out again soon afterwards.

It just occurred to me today that I could copy the tape, and then we wouldn't have to keep borrowing it. But I sort of feel I shouldn't do this...even though the tape is free to borrow from the library so it isn't as if it would be taking money away from them.

What do you think?

Would the people who say NO mind if someone asked to copy one of your tapes? We had the entire "Sophie" stories on (our own original) tapes, and have lent them to friends to try, pass long journeys etc. We had no prob when someone asked if they could copy - suppose wouldn't have known if they had just done it anyway!

I* really don't see how it is any different to lending people your books.

I think i will copy it...and I have come up with the perfect justification:

If we keep on borrowing it, especially for long periods of time, it is bound to get worn out. This will then cost the library money to replace.

So by copying it, this will save the library money in the long run Grin

We borrowed some story tapes from the libary.. taped them.. then forgot to take the tapes back on time... I had to pay £11 fine... £11...
I concidered that to be 'Gods Punishment' as it would have been cheaper to bloody buy them!

Copying the tape is defrauding the writer and the person who recorded it of their livelihood - that's people like spidermama's dh or gggl. That's why copyright and intellectual property laws exist.
Yes of course it is only you and it's only the library's probably gravy-stained copy and yes, by renewing it a billion times you are indeed boosting the mobile's essential figures to ensure its survival Grin
Honestly, if you love it that much, respect the qualities that make it special to you and buy your own copy Wallace. The UK leads the world IMO in the production of quality children's books but the industry needs to sell copies, as well as get fractions of pennies from public libraries in loan fees every year, in order for it to stay that way. And now you are going to say it is Angelia Jolie reading Disney Tales I bet :)
