Am after any recommendations for swimming gear for 2.5year old wriggly boy. Have a swim nappy lined up but was wondering about those swim jackets with floats or one of those all in ones with floats? Also is there any benefit in those neoprene numbers?

I have a swim jacket with floats for my nearly 3 year old wee man. He's had it for almost a year. It's been great and apparently keeps them in the correct swimming position (unlike armbands).

(don't know what neoprene numbers are!)

sort of all in one divers suit type thing... I'm unsure.

and I thought getting me a swimsuit was hard...

Depends what kind of swimming you mean...

Neoprene is very good for a cool pool or going in the sea as it keeps them warmer for longer. Also think I'm right in saying it aids buoyancy a bit (but not like a floatsuit or armbands). Good for playing/splashing about in, not so good for lessons as they can restrict arm and leg movements somewhat (especially when a child is still trying to learn).

If your ds is actually trying to learn to swim, I would go with a float jacket in preference to armbands because it would be less restrictive and armbands, IMHO, encourage a bad swimming position and hamper arm movements in general. (I don't think many swimming teachers would want your son to wear a float jacket for actual lessons, but I'm assuming you are talking about swim gear for a general family swim type-thing).

Hope this helps.
