I just got interrupted in the middle of my lunch by a call for DH (who's at work). The woman on the other end of the line asked for DH - when I said he was at work and could I take a message, she replied 'No, it's just a courtesy call. I'll try again later'. She was from a bank and I know for a fact that DH hasn't contacted them ( I just rang him to ask)....so in what way was it a 'courtesy' call????? It seems to me that the word 'courtesy' is actually being used to cover up the fact that they are being exactly the opposite.....a courtesy car is one supplied free of charge for your convenience, an unsolicited phone call is convenient for you exactly how?

Grrrrrrrr Angry. If you are going to waste my time with unwanted calls have the decency not to abuse the English language. I think I need to re-register with the TP service.

Do you know - that is such a good point! Next time I get a "courtesy" call I'm going to say "can you tell me exactly what is courteous about you taking up what precious little time to myself that I actually get to ask me stupid questions that I don't want to hear??!!"

btw I don't think registering with TPS stops people with whom you are a customer ringing you unfortunately Angry

No I don't think it does either...but we aren't a customer with them. When we first registered last year it was like a miracle....no calls at all ...bliss! Smile However they still came through on my work line at home but I took great pleasure in telling them to get stuffed as I wasn't allowed to take personal calls on that line... Grin

We're finding that increasing number of companies see fit to call us on Saturdays now - it's infuriating. HSBC, BT and the Inland Revenue have all done this in the last month. Bastards!

If you are a customer of x bank, they can still ring you but you need to ask them to update their marketing information - you can ask them for no contact at all, by phone, on a certain number only etc. they need to mark their customer data with the fact that you are either ex directory, or on tps. They are then allowed to ring you with specifics regarding your dealings with them, but not for general marketing.
