We are thinking of relocating to Southampton. Can anyone give me some advice on junior schools in the area? Also, would be grateful for any advice on areas to consider (or avoid?) living in. TIA

Just a note if you're thinking about Chandlers Ford, Hiltingbury Jrs is oversubscribed this autumn due to Merdon Avenue Jrs getting a bad Ofsted.
I grew up in Hiltingbury and the schools are excellent but it's dull as * for teenagers without cars. Maybe that's a good thing from a parent's point of view but DH and I are definite we don't want to move there, despite all my family living there. We love city living - the public transport means we can get by with one car which has saved us loads of money.

Like so many cities and towns in the UK, for the most part Southampton is largely a slum. Sure, some nice areas, but because of the overwhelmingly working class, unemployed and migrants, the nicer areas are much in demand so are very expensive. If you make enough money, say 100k or more, you will be able to find a decent area to live in. Of course, you will be exposed to all the Chavs, all the wannabee gangstas in town etc. Wouldnt want your daughters or wife to out alone in town at night. Third world types and the Brit working class are used to this so dont see anything wrong. But if you come from a decent area, you will be quickly be looking to move again.
