Boring question about laminate flooring in bathroom

When you put laminate flooring down in the bathroom, do you cut round the pedestal while in situ or take the pedestal off the wall, then put the flooring down underneath (cutting round the pipes etc). The latter would be neater but is it really what most people do? DH thinks so, which is why the job has never been done. We've had the flooring sitting in a cupboard for about 2 years! I think better to do a slightly less good job than none at all but he disagrees and he and his dad just haven't got around to it yet!

laminate floor is not recommended in bathrooms or kitchens, its not waterproof or something

but to answer the question, i would unscrew the loo and lift it up and put laminate underneath

starlover · 14/03/2006 15:09

i'd do the flooring then put pedestal on...

LIZS · 14/03/2006 15:10

np , how easy is that to do ?

madmarchhare · 14/03/2006 15:12

NP, you can get some sprecifically for it, Aqua something or other. We have it and its very good.

We took the sink one off but cut round the loo.

You can get special bathroom laminate that is suitable and worth the extra money for, particularly with kids that flood the bathroom Grin

we unscrewed our loo (we just have the pedastal (?) bit going into the floor, no pipes or anything) and lifted it to put lino under it

there are 2 screws, one each side of pedastal

nailpolish · 14/03/2006 15:14

we could only lift it up a nanomillimetre (!) but it was enough to slip the lino under

laminate may be harder i suppose

Think you can do either tbh. If you put a decent sealant round all the edges then it can cover some (not a multitude) of sins caused during cutting. FWIW, we used a kitchen and bathroom one in our kitchen and it still got a bit warped with water- there are a couple of bumps and bends in it and it's only just 2 years old. We don't care as we're moving next week tho! Yippee

Yes, it is the waterproof kind (not cheap, hence my wish to get the stuff blooming well laid instead of sitting collecting dust!).

Ah, so lifting the pedestal etc isn't too bad? I guess it was the basin one I was thinking would be worse, as the top bit is sealed to the wall, around the tiles etc. Hope that makes sense. I think I need to get pushy or threaten to do it myself (which would be a disaster LOL!)
Thanks for all your replies!
