Can I try my quiz out on you?

I'm writing a quiz for my church, have never done it before, so if I paste the questions onto here will you tell me if you think they are pitched right?

I don't wnat to go for the traditional Sport, History, Music etc rounds so I'm doing more of a mixed bag. This is the first round. Obvioulsy we come from Wigan and the fourth question was one about the history of our church so I've blanked that

When

  1. When did Coronation Street start?
  2. When did Solomon Grundy take ill?
  3. When was John F Kennedy assassinated?
  4. When did Elvis die?
  5. When did Wigan Warriors play their last match at Central Park?
  6. When did Tony Blair become Prime Minister?
  7. When is Epiphany?
  8. When did Manchester United win the Treble?
10. When was the San Francisco earthquake? 11. When did Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon? 12. When is St Andrew’s day?

I'll post the other rounds later if I get feed back on this one

Ta!

Good questions and I'm a fellow wiganer although we are more the round shape ball in our house.

katzg · 13/03/2006 20:46

was about to post good questions but they're all a little datey, then realised that they were meant to be

bubblerock · 13/03/2006 20:46

I think it's good, varied interests, era's etc...

psst.. some people think Elvis is still alive Grin

harpsichordcarrier · 13/03/2006 20:48

sorry to be pedantic but surely there was more than one SF earthquake?

Rhubarb · 13/03/2006 20:49
  1. 1962 (at a guess)
  2. who?
  3. 1965 (another guess!)
  4. Peanut Pie - obviously!
  5. 1976?
  6. Saturday?
  7. 1995?
  8. Jan 6th
  9. dunno
10. 2005 11. 1962 12. March?

I'm so thick when it comes to dates!!!!

Miaou · 13/03/2006 20:50

Yes I would say that is pitched about right - I know one or two for definite, could have an educated guess at about three others, and haven't a clue about the rest - that's usually about right for a quiz IMO!

alliebaba · 13/03/2006 20:50

the biggie was in the 70's i think, but there have been tons due to it lying on the san andreas fault (baba remembers A level geography many moons later)

well? Did I get them right then?

Miaou · 13/03/2006 20:52

Rhubarb -

Solomon Grundy
Born on a Monday
Christened on a Tuesday
Married on a Wednesday
Took ill on Thursday
Worse on Friday
Died on Saturday
Buried on Sunday
And that is the story of Solomon Grundy!

Rhubarb · 13/03/2006 20:54

Ooooh right!
What about the others then? I got those right surely?

harpsichordcarrier · 13/03/2006 20:55

yesI agree it is pitched at a good level
not too tricky
but not too easy either
guessable, fun

helsi · 13/03/2006 21:00

does it have to be all dates?

Also, some people might try to be cheeky and take your questions literally, for example,
when did Coronation Street start? About 7.30pm
When did Elvis die? when his heart stopped
When did Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon? When he walked out of the rocket etc etc

maybe ask for the dates e.g. in what year did Coronation Street first appear on our screens?

In which year did Elvis presley die? Extra point for the correct month.

do you know what I am saying?

could you also do a further mixture in addition to dated qustions such as

who sang "X"
Spell "X"
Who is married to "X"

I used to have the Who wants to be a Millionaire book but sold it on ebay - that was great for setting quizzes.

Good luck.

Rhubarb · 13/03/2006 21:01

helsi · 13/03/2006 21:03

oh yes sorry - its the "when" section - but i still think exact dates should be asked for. there is always one clever arse in a quiz game trying to pull the wool over.

Rhubarb · 13/03/2006 21:04

Don't care anyway, you're all just in awe of my brains that's all.

And to think I was trying to be 'elpful!

lilibet · 13/03/2006 21:32

Thanks Helsi, I shall rephrase them

Next section

Where

  1. Where did Steve Redgrave win his fourth gold Medal?
  2. Where would you be if you were on the Bridge over the River Kwai?
  3. Where was Mork’s home planet?
  4. Where are The Doldrums?
  5. Where did a nightingale sing?
  6. Where was Henry Stanley when he said “Dr Livingstone, I presume?”
  7. Where was the television soap Crossroads based?
  8. Where do Celtic play?
  9. Where did the Yellow Brick Road lead?
10. Where is Sugar Loaf Mountain? 11. Where did the Boer War take place? 12. Where are Edmund, Peter, Susan and Lucy monarchs

Lilibet, DH & I have run several church quizes, (With NO church questons at all so as not to put of visitors). We are doing one this weekend. Can let you have some rounds/ideas if you like.

We run Quiz n Chips, & get the chippy to deliver to the church! We also have several music spot the intro/film/kids programme etc round which are fun.

We also always leave a few "Fill in the answers" sheets on the tables for people to start when they arrive, to help get people chatting etc. We have had Bond-O-Grams, Fill in the monopoly board squares, Match inventions to year etc etc.

lilibet · 13/03/2006 22:26

Thanks milliways, somehting I could do with help with is the picture round, we went to a quiz recently where it was all 'catchphrase' type pictures and that was really good, but a lot of the same people will be there.

What sort of things do you do for that?

OP posts:
Milliways · 13/03/2006 22:37

Do you have a data projector & computer, if so we have loads. Film slides with faces removed is great. We have a printed sheet of small film slides for spot the film (left on tables), we have flags around room- name the country, for an icebreaker etc. I have also cut logos from magazines & web pages - spot the product.
