Dd2 brings a letter home on Friday saying can she please take her scooter and helmet in to school on tuesday.

Oh yes of course, I will try and control dd whilst she hurtles along on her scooter on the way to school along busy roads in the morning, or try and carry it along with the buggy.

Do they think every one drives and can shove it in the boot ?

Also, Dd has a scooter, but no helmet, and the cheapest in the argos book is £9.99, not too bad but thats only at an agros extra, which i cannot get to. The cheapest avaiable at my local argos is £19.99.

Argh Angry

Oh and of course the helmet has to be pink.

What about those children who don't have scooters??? What does the school expect them to do?

spidermama · 13/03/2006 10:07

Angry on your behalf. They haven't given you much notice. And what about kids who don't have scooters? Or helmets? None of my kids have helmets for scootering.

nutcracker · 13/03/2006 10:10

It does say to let them know if the child can't take theirs in, but there is no way Dd is going to not take hers in.

Luckily we have several scooters, just no helmet.

Unfortunatly the school do have a habit of asking for things on the spur of the moment, without any thought for that parent that has to rush aroud sorting it out.

Ok, have found a prurple flowery helmet in Argos for £7.99, that will have to do.

Only thing is I dunno what size dd's head is. It says it fits head size 54-58 cms.

Nutty is it one of those metal type scooters that folds. down? My dd has one like that and I can stick it in the net basket thing at the bottom of the buggy. I might have a pink Barbie helmet but it wouldn't reach you in time for school tomorrow.

nutcracker · 13/03/2006 10:14

ARGH I don't believe it, it's not available until thursday for collection.

Good grief, as you said what about kids who have no scooter, how will their parents feel.

Strange!

nutcracker · 13/03/2006 10:15

She does have a metal one yeah but tbh I have never been able to fold it up LOL.

I think at the mo she is taking her barbie one.

If I can get her a helmet.

Why on earth has the school asked them to take scooters in?

Feistybird · 13/03/2006 10:17

Nutty - are you in the Midlands? I'm in Cov and have a pink one you could have....am working tho, so you would need to pick it up.

alexsmum · 13/03/2006 10:18

just send her scooter without the helmet.ffs-what damage can they do on a bloody scooter in the school playground?

milward · 13/03/2006 10:18

I'm meant to bring a bike to school once a week for my dd2 & dd1 - from spring through summer.

I told the school it was impossible for me as have dd3 who's 2 & a ds4 who's 5 months (last yr was preg & couldn't carry a bike plus dd3 who wouldn't walk!!). With 4 kids in the car there's no space for one or two bike in anycase. I have to drive as too far to school & not all roads have pavements! Ahhhh- I explained to my kids & they understood & are fine about it. I get the impression the school thinks it's no problem for mums to haul bikes to & from school.

best wishes xxx

alexsmum · 13/03/2006 10:19

ds's school did this-but it could be a bike or a scooter and they didn't insist on helmets.it was part of learning about exercise and keeping healthy.

nutcracker · 13/03/2006 10:19

Thanks for the offer Feistybird but I couldn't get to you.

They are having to take them in as part of their topic about toys i think.

Have just reserved a Barbie helmet from Argos (surprise surprise that was in stock). It's £15 mind which is more than I want to pay so will try and find a cheaper one first.

Why does the school insist the helmet has to be pink??

fimbo · 13/03/2006 10:19

\link{http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10151&productId=176405&categoryId=31435\LOOK}. Maybe a local branch would have it in stock?

SoupDragon · 13/03/2006 10:20

DSs school have done the "wheeled toy" topic too. Although they could bring in any wheeled toy. Most bought bikes and scooters, obviously.

nutcracker · 13/03/2006 10:22

LOL Soupy the school aren't insisting it is pink, Dd is.

At this rate she'll be lucky if she gets one at all.

From what Dd said, I don't think they have all been asked to take a scooter in, just a select few, but you'd think they'd have tried to pick the ones whos parents drive to school or who have unlimited amounts of cash for helmets wouldn't you.

If I had got to the letter before Dd then she wouldn't have been taking hers, but she came out of school already telling me about it.

tiredemma · 13/03/2006 10:33

ladymuck · 13/03/2006 10:35

Nutty - are you absolutely sure that she needs the helmet for school? It seems a bit much going out and buying one just for this?
